Spider-Man: Brand New Day is swinging into box office history.
The latest Spider-Man movie has officially passed $2 billion in worldwide ticket sales after just three weekends in theaters. The Tom Holland-led superhero movie has quickly become one of the biggest films of all time.
According to Variety, the movie has earned about $785 million in North America and another $1.23 billion internationally. That puts its worldwide total at approximately $2.022 billion.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day joins $2 billion club
The latest Spider-Man adventure is now part of an exclusive group of movies that have crossed the $2 billion mark.
Only a handful of films have reached the milestone, including Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Avatar: The Way of Water, Titanic, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is also the second-fastest movie ever to reach $2 billion.
Avengers: Endgame still holds the record. The Marvel blockbuster reached the milestone after just 11 days.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man breaks box office records
The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day began with its opening weekend.
The movie earned approximately $355 million in North America during its debut. Worldwide, it collected about $932 million in its first weekend.
The film then crossed $1 billion after only six days in theaters.
That momentum has continued throughout its theatrical run, pushing the latest Peter Parker adventure into the highest-grossing movies in history.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day could make more history
The movie’s $2 billion milestone may not be its final box office achievement.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already become the eighth-biggest worldwide release ever. Its strong performance has also sparked questions about how high the film could ultimately climb.
One possibility is a run toward $3 billion worldwide, a figure no movie has reached before.
The film could also challenge the domestic record. Star Wars: The Force Awakens currently holds the North American box office record with about $936 million.
Brand New Day has already earned $785 million domestically, leaving it within striking distance of that mark.
How Spider-Man: Brand New Day compares with No Way Home
The latest success also gives Brand New Day an edge over its predecessor.
2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home earned approximately $1.9 billion worldwide. The movie came close to the $2 billion milestone but ultimately fell short.
Brand New Day has now surpassed that total in only three weeks.
The performance further cements Tom Holland’s version of Peter Parker as one of the most successful superhero franchises in modern movie history.
With audiences continuing to turn out around the world, Spider-Man: Brand New Day still has plenty of time to add to its already massive total.
