Fans of Judy Blume’s beloved coming-of-age story can now bring Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. home. Lionsgate released the 2023 film on 4K and Digital on August 25, 2026.
The comedy-drama brings Blume’s classic novel to the screen with a cast led by Abby Ryder Fortson, Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates.
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. Tells a Coming-of-Age Story
The film follows 11-year-old Margaret Simon as her family moves from New York City to the suburbs of New Jersey.
The sudden change places Margaret in a new school and introduces her to a new group of friends. At the same time, she begins navigating the challenges that come with growing up.
Margaret also turns to her mother and grandmother as she tries to understand the changes happening around her.
The story explores friendship, family, puberty and the questions that often come with adolescence.
Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates Lead the Cast
Abby Ryder Fortson stars as Margaret. Rachel McAdams plays her mother, while Kathy Bates portrays her grandmother.
The cast also includes Elle Graham and Benny Safdie.
Kelly Fremon Craig directed the film and wrote the screenplay. She based the screenplay on Judy Blume’s original novel.
Craig also joined James L. Brooks, Julie Ansell, Richard Sakai and Blume as a producer.
Lionsgate 4K and Digital Release Includes Extras
The Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret 4K and Digital release includes several special features for fans.
The bonus material takes viewers behind the scenes of the production. It also explores the process of adapting Blume’s book for the big screen.

The release also includes The Secret Crew Club: Margaret and Friends and Bringing the Period to Life: Designing Margaret.

What to Know About the 4K Release
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. runs for 105 minutes and carries a PG-13 rating.
The film presents in a 16:9 format with a 1.85:1 presentation. The 4K release includes English Dolby Atmos audio, along with Spanish and French 5.1 Dolby Digital audio.
English descriptive audio is also available. Subtitles include English SDH, Spanish and French.
The film was originally produced in 2023 and adapts one of Blume’s most recognizable novels.
