TLC’s gripping new three-part docuseries, THE CULT OF THE REAL HOUSEWIFE, pulls back the veil on one of reality television’s most controversial figures, and the religious institution tied to her name. Premiering Thursday, January 1 from 8–11 PM ET/PT, the series investigates Mary Cosby, best known from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, and the church she co-leads with her husband/step-grandfather, Robert Cosby Sr., Faith Temple Pentecostal Church.
With allegations of spiritual, financial, and emotional misconduct surrounding both Cosby and the church, THE CULT OF THE REAL HOUSEWIFE goes far beyond gossip and reality TV intrigue. Instead, it offers a deeply investigative look at how faith, family, and power intersect, and how those dynamics can be manipulated behind closed doors.
The docuseries traces the origins of Faith Temple back to its founding by Rosemary “Mama” Cosby, Mary’s grandmother and a beloved spiritual leader within the community. Following Mama Cosby’s death, a controversial transfer of leadership unfolded, culminating in Mary inheriting the church and marrying her step-grandfather, Robert Sr. This highly disputed bequeathment fractured the congregation and marked the beginning of what many former members describe as a troubling new era.
For the first time, THE CULT OF THE REAL HOUSEWIFE amplifies the voices of ex-congregants who say they were harmed while under the church’s influence. Long-standing members, including the Enoch family, share their experiences, alongside deeply personal accounts from Cosby’s own relatives: her sister Denise Jefferson Odinaka and cousin Dan Cosby, joined by his wife, Kim. Their testimonies paint a disturbing portrait of devotion, fear, and control.
The series also features investigative journalists and bloggers who have followed the story for years, as well as a leading cult expert who breaks down the psychological tactics commonly used to enforce loyalty and suppress dissent in high-control religious environments.
Blending the cultural fascination of reality television with the urgency of true-crime storytelling, THE CULT OF THE REAL HOUSEWIFE challenges viewers to reconsider what happens when celebrity, spirituality, and unchecked authority collide.
The docuseries premieres Thursday, January 1 from 8–11 PM ET/PT. All episodes will be available to stream the next day on HBO Max and discovery+.
