The CBC Spouses Community Breakfast helps open the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 55th Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.
The breakfast and health fair takes place Wednesday, September 16, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. ET. Attendees will gather at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
Meanwhile, ALC 55 runs through September 20. The conference brings together lawmakers, advocates, professionals, students and community leaders.
This year’s gathering features discussions on policy, leadership, health, social justice and economic empowerment.
Health and community take the spotlight
The CBC Spouses Community Breakfast and Health Fair brings a community focus to the start of ALC 55.
Congresswoman Terri Sewell serves as CBCF Board Chair. CBCF President and CEO Nicole Austin-Hillery will also attend.
CBC Chair Yvette Clarke will participate as well. ALC honorary co-chairs Congresswoman Alma Adams and Congressman Glenn Ivey will also join the event.
The breakfast starts before the conference’s Opening Press Conference. Organizers scheduled that event for 10 a.m. ET.
Together, the two events give the opening day a strong focus on leadership and community.
ALC 55 marks a major milestone
This year’s conference also carries special meaning for CBCF.
The foundation celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026. CBCF began its work in 1976 and has continued to bring leaders together around important issues.
In addition, CBCF chose “Rooted, Ready and Rising” as the theme for ALC 55.
The theme connects CBCF’s history with its focus on the future. It also highlights the strength and perseverance of Black communities.
Over the years, the Annual Legislative Conference has become a major gathering for lawmakers, advocates and thought leaders.
A busy first day follows
The breakfast and health fair only begins Wednesday’s packed schedule.
Next, the Opening Press Conference will run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET.
Congresswoman Terri Sewell, Nicole Austin-Hillery and Congresswoman Yvette Clarke will participate. Congresswoman Alma Adams and Congressman Glenn Ivey will also join them.
Organizers will announce additional names as they become available.
After the opening events, attendees will take part in more forums and discussions.
CBCF says ALC 55 will feature more than 100 panels, issue forums and brain trust sessions. These conversations will address major issues affecting Black communities and the nation.
More events are coming
The conference continues Thursday with the National Town Hall.
Organizers scheduled the event for September 17 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. ET. Political strategist Symone D. Sanders-Townsend and MS NOW senior Washington correspondent Eugene Daniels will moderate the discussion.
Later in the conference, attendees can look forward to the Day of Healing and Phoenix Awards.
The Day of Healing will take place Saturday morning. The Phoenix Awards will follow that evening.
For now, however, the CBC Spouses Community Breakfast and Health Fair gives ALC 55 a community-focused start.
The event also reflects the conference’s larger theme. As ALC 55 gets underway, CBCF brings its history, leadership and community priorities together in one space.
