Detroit moviegoers can see Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother before its wider theatrical release.
Writer-director Bassam Tariq brings the film to the big screen with two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali in the lead role. Tonight, MJR Troy will host a free advanced screening in Metro Detroit.
Afterward, the audience can join a special discussion with members of the Detroit creative community.
Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother screens in Detroit
The Metro Detroit screening takes place Thursday, September 24, at MJR Troy.
Doors open at 7:15 p.m. The movie will follow shortly afterward. This event forms part of a community screening series that gives audiences an early look at the film.
In addition, the Detroit event will feature a post-screening discussion. Guests can hear from local panelists and share their thoughts about the movie.
Detroit panel follows the screening
Porsha Monique will moderate the post-screening discussion.
She will join Oya Amakisi and Ahmed Lucan for the conversation. Together, the panelists will explore the film and its themes with the Detroit audience.
Picture Motion presents the event. Meanwhile, 100 Black Men of Detroit, Let’s Art About It Studio, Change Is Reel, MAPS Michigan and Revelence Media are co-hosting the screening.
The collaboration brings together organizations and creatives with connections to film, culture and community engagement.
Bassam Tariq directs Mahershala Ali
Tariq wrote and directed Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.
Meanwhile, Ali leads the cast. The actor has won two Academy Awards for his performances in Moonlight and Green Book.
As a result, the Detroit screening gives local moviegoers an early opportunity to experience Tariq’s latest work on the big screen.
More free screenings are coming
Detroit marks the first stop on the announced community screening schedule.
Next, the series will visit Dallas on September 29. Atlanta will host a screening on October 3, followed by Houston on October 6 and Philadelphia on October 15.
Some screenings will also feature special appearances from Tariq. Therefore, audiences may have an opportunity to hear directly from the writer-director about his work.
However, attendees should follow the event’s strict anti-recording rules. Organizers will monitor each screening for unauthorized audio or video recording.
Guests who attempt to record may face removal from the theater. Organizers also warn that other consequences may apply.
