The Fast & Furious franchise is officially heading to television.
Peacock has given a series order to its first TV project based on the blockbuster franchise, which has earned more than $7 billion at the global box office over the past 25 years.
The untitled series comes from writers and co-showrunners Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman, with franchise star Vin Diesel attached as an executive producer. The show is currently set to premiere in 2028.
Fast & Furious series moves forward
The Peacock series was first announced in May during NBCUniversal’s Upfront presentation.
Diesel appeared alongside Jimmy Fallon during the event to reveal plans to expand the Fast & Furious universe into television. At the time, Diesel said four Fast & Furious shows were in development at Peacock.
However, the Daniels and Coleman project was the only one that had been officially set up. The other projects remained in earlier stages of development.
The new series order now moves the project from development into an official television production.
Vin Diesel joins Fast & Furious TV project
Diesel will executive produce the series alongside Daniels and Coleman.
Other executive producers include Sam Vincent of One Race, Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, as well as Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan.
Universal Television will produce the series.
The involvement of several longtime franchise producers connects the new show to the larger Fast & Furious universe. However, Peacock has not yet revealed extensive plot details or confirmed whether major characters from the films will appear.
Fast & Furious franchise expands to TV
The new series represents a major expansion for one of Hollywood’s most successful action franchises.
The Fast & Furious movies have spent more than two decades building a global audience around street racing, elaborate heists, family and high-stakes action. A television series gives the franchise an opportunity to explore new characters and stories beyond the main film series.
Peacock has not yet announced the full cast, episode count or specific storyline for the upcoming show.
The series is scheduled to premiere in 2028, giving the creative team time to develop a new chapter within the franchise.
For fans, the Peacock order confirms that the Fast & Furious universe will soon extend beyond the big screen and into episodic television.
