Building on a powerful legacy
ABFF Honors stems from the American Black Film Festival, which founder Jeff Friday established in 1997 as the leading festival showcasing Black storytelling. Since its inception, the festival has premiered work and encouraged careers of many successful filmmakers and actors working today, becoming the standard-bearer of excellence for Black American creativity.
The honors ceremony, founded in 2016, extends that mission by paying tribute to Black artists during awards season when industry recognition reaches its peak. The event creates space to acknowledge contributions that might otherwise go unrecognized by mainstream awards bodies.
Executive leadership guides the vision
Jeff Friday and Nicole Friday of NICE CROWD serve as executive producers alongside Rikki Hughes of Magic Lemonade, with dePasse Jones Entertainment joining as a producing partner. Their combined expertise ensures the event maintains its reputation for excellence while delivering meaningful recognition to honorees.
Event sponsors include Ally Financial as presenting sponsor, with additional support from Sony Pictures Entertainment, Andscape, Morgan Stanley Global Sports and Entertainment, HBO Max, SLS Hotel and Variety as media partner.
The red carpet will open at 5 p.m. on February 16, with arrivals continuing until 6:30 p.m. as Hollywood’s elite gather to celebrate Black excellence in entertainment.
