Run the City Detroit Mayoral Forum 2025 Brings Candidates and Community Together

Detroit, MI – The 2025 Detroit mayoral race is heating up, and voters will have a crucial opportunity to hear directly from the candidates at the Run the City Detroit  Mayoral Forum on Thursday, May 15, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. 

The event will take place at the Boys & Girls Club, 16500 Tireman Avenue, Detroit, MI  48228. 

Presented by Our Own Wall Street, Black Women in Michigan Politics, Cody Rouge  Community Action Alliance, and Michigan United, this forum aims to provide Detroit residents with the opportunity to hear directly from the mayoral candidates about their vision, policies, and plans for the future of the city. 

The event will be a moderated discussion, ensuring a fair and productive dialogue on the most pressing issues facing Detroit, including economic development, public safety, education, housing, and community investment. 

“This forum isn’t just about politics—it’s about the future of Detroit,” said Chenita W.  Gary, Founder & Executive Director of Our Own Wall Street. “We are creating a  space where voters can engage directly with candidates, hold them accountable, and  make informed decisions.” 

Community members, local leaders, and media are encouraged to attend and take part in this important conversation about the city’s future.

About the Organizers: 

Our Own Wall Street 

Our Own Wall Street is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with an ecosystem designed to address the needs of communities by sharing resources and teaching soft skills facilitated by professionals and business owners. The organization provides educational workshops and events focused on Civic Engagement, Health & Wellness, and Personal &  Professional Development. 

Black Women in Michigan Politics 

The Black Women in Michigan Politics (BWMP) is a non-partisan organization dedicated to empowering Black women across the state. Through our 501(c)(3) BWMP Institute, we strive to educate, mentor, and collaborate on finding effective, congruent solutions to the challenges faced in Michigan politics. By providing essential resources and establishing a robust support system for political officials, our goal is to foster a network of engaged leaders. Our vision is to collectively engage, connect, and address policy matters in real time, ensuring that Black women have the tools and opportunities to make an impactful difference in Michigan’s political landscape. 

Cody Rouge Community Action Alliance (CRCAA) 

CRCAA is a community-based development organization (CBDO) with deep connections in the Detroit community. The Cody Rouge neighborhood has the second-highest population of children (ages 0-18) in Detroit, making youth engagement a critical focus. CRCAA has achieved significant success in: Youth development through leadership and enrichment programs, Community engagement by uniting residents, families, and local organizations, Neighborhood stabilization through strategic initiatives. 

Michigan United 

Michigan United is a broad, statewide coalition dedicated to fighting for racial and economic justice. The organization works to: Reform our broken immigration system, Protect the environment. End mass incarceration Through leadership development and advocacy,  Michigan United empowers its members to eradicate the root causes of systemic inequality and drive lasting change in communities across the state.
