Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan return as Dan and Jessica Morgan, Hollywood’s fearless, funny, and fiercely loyal couple, in Apple TV’s sequel The Family Plan 2. They are joined by the next generation of Morgans, Zoe Colletti (Nina) and Van Crosby (Kyle), and newcomer Reda Elazouar (Omar), in this anticipated action-comedy. The film takes the family on a wild, international adventure across Europe during the holiday season, promising even more action, laughs, and family connection.
Here an exclusive with the Morgan family, the sequel’s stunts, and their favorite memories from filming.
Q: What was it like stepping back into the Morgan’s world, and how did you elevate that dynamic this time around?
Mark Wahlberg: We picked up right where we left off. This is Michelle and I’s third movie together, and we have great chemistry. The kids have become like extended parts of both of our families, as we are both very family oriented. To heighten the dynamics, and give people what they loved about the first one, we brought new family members into the fold. For me, always wanting a younger brother, having Kid Harrington come in to play my brother was a kick. I also now have a soon-to-be son-in-law calling me “daddy” all the time, which I love.
Michelle Monaghan: I was so excited we had the opportunity to get back in the saddle. The fact that we were going international for Family Plan 2 was exciting—getting to come to London and Paris and shoot at iconic landmarks and have action sequences, specifically during the beautiful and special holiday season. I feel like this is a film families are going to enjoy as much as the first, if not more, this holiday.
Q: Michelle, what was the most exhilarating stunt for you to film, and how did you prepare for it?
Michelle Monaghan: It was my long jump. I love the fact they leaned into Jessica Morgan as a decathlete, exploring the different ways she competes, like the shot put and long jump, in addition to the pole vault we saw in the first one. Getting in a wire to do a long jump of about 18 feet was exhilarating for me. I love skydiving and bungee jumping, so I enjoy those little butterflies in my tummy.
Q: Mark, what about you for the most exhilarating stunt?
Mark Wahlberg: Probably running across the roofs in Paris, getting a view of Paris most don’t get to see. The fight on the bus was also a lot of fun, but it was nerve-wracking because of all the movement from the bus. Those scenes were basically choreographed to be fought on flat ground. All the action is top-notch.
Q: Rapid fire: What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Mark Wahlberg: I’ve said Bad Santa a couple of times. I also love It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street, but Bad Santa is the first thing that comes to mind because I saw it recently.
Michelle Monaghan: Christmas Vacation and Home Alone.
Q: London or Paris?
Mark Wahlberg: You can’t choose—it’s like a favorite kid situation. London is beautiful and festive, but Paris is always my favorite city in the world for a number of reasons. This time, however, I really fell in love with London. Normally, I’m shooting outside the city, but this time, we were in central London the whole time around some of the most iconic tourist spots. I got to know the city in a much more intimate way, and it’s decorated to the nines for the holidays—it’s beautiful.
Q: What’s one word that best describes The Family Plan 2?
Michelle Monaghan: Connection.
Mark Wahlberg: Fulfilling.
