The 98th Academy Awards will take place on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Fans can tune in for live coverage on ABC or stream the ceremony on Hulu.

Red carpet pre-show begins at 6:30 PM ET, with the main ceremony starting at 7:00 PM ET. Late-night host Conan O’Brien returns for his second consecutive year, following a highly praised 2025 performance.

Record-breaking nominations for Sinners

Sinners leads the Oscars with a staggering 16 nominations, surpassing the 14-nomination record previously held by All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land. Directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, Sinners received recognition across acting, directing, screenplay, technical, and craft categories.

This includes major races such as:

  1. Best Picture

  2. Best Director

  3. Best Actor – Michael B. Jordan

  4. Supporting acting categories

  5. Screenplay, cinematography, production design, costume design, score, visual effects, and more

The broad range of nominations reflects both industry-wide acclaim and a shift toward acknowledging Black-led productions and genre films.

New category debut: Best Casting

For the first time since 2001, the Academy will present a Best Casting award, recognizing casting directors’ contributions to filmmaking. Nominees include Sinners, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, and The Secret Agent. This institutional change highlights a growing focus on collaborative craft beyond traditional above-the-line recognition.

Final voting and viewing requirements

Final Academy voting began February 26 and closes March 5. All active members must confirm they have viewed each nominated film in a category to cast a valid vote, a new requirement aimed at ensuring informed selections.

Key takeaways for Oscars 2026

  • Sinners dominates headlines and may redefine Best Picture and Director races.

  • Conan O’Brien’s hosting brings humor, warmth, and ceremony tradition.

  • Fans can expect historic firsts, including Best Casting, while major nominations continue to spark predictions across acting and technical fields.

  • March 15 promises to be a milestone night for Hollywood, where wins could signal broader shifts in industry recognition and inclusivity.
