The device, announced March 2, will start at $599 and comes with double the base storage of its predecessor at 256GB. Preorders begin March 4, with in-store availability starting March 11 in more than 70 countries.
Here are 5 key upgrades that define the new model.
Faster performance with the A19 chip
At the core of the iPhone 17e is Apple’s A19 chip, built using advanced 3-nanometer technology. The updated processor includes a 6-core CPU and a 4-core GPU designed to improve speed and graphics performance.
According to Apple, the chip delivers up to 2x faster performance compared with iPhone 11, supporting everything from everyday multitasking to more demanding mobile games. The upgraded Neural Engine is also optimized for Apple Intelligence features in iOS 26.

48MP camera with 2-in-1 capability
The iPhone 17e features a 48-megapixel Fusion camera system capable of capturing high-resolution images while maintaining manageable file sizes with a 24MP default setting.
The camera also offers an optical-quality 2x Telephoto option, allowing users to zoom in without sacrificing clarity. Night mode and improved HDR enhance low-light photography, while 4K Dolby Vision video recording is available at up to 60 frames per second.
Portrait photography has also been upgraded, with the ability to recognize people and pets and apply background blur adjustments after a photo is taken.
Enhanced durability with Ceramic Shield 2
Apple says durability was a focus with this release. The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display now includes Ceramic Shield 2, which the company says provides 3x better scratch resistance compared with the previous generation.
The device features an aerospace-grade aluminum body and carries an IP68 rating for splash, water and dust resistance. It is available in black, white and soft pink finishes.

Improved battery life and MagSafe
Battery efficiency benefits from both the A19 chip and Apple’s new C1X cellular modem. The modem is designed to deliver faster speeds while using less energy.
The iPhone 17e supports USB-C fast charging, reaching up to 50 percent charge in around 30 minutes with a compatible adapter. It also supports MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W, allowing compatibility with a range of magnetic accessories including wallets, cases and stands.
Satellite connectivity and safety tools
The device continues Apple’s push into emergency connectivity. Users can access Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages and Find My via satellite when outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.
Crash Detection is also included, enabling the phone to contact emergency services if a severe vehicle collision is detected.
Pricing and availability
The iPhone 17e starts at $599 for 256GB of storage and is also available in a 512GB configuration. Apple is offering trade-in credits through carrier promotions and Apple Trade In programs for eligible older devices.
With expanded storage, performance upgrades and satellite capabilities, the iPhone 17e positions itself as a lower-cost entry point into the iPhone 17 lineup while maintaining many premium features.
