Another called it fascinating, noting that the center goes far beyond a simple presidential museum. It traces the broader history of the United States, its development over time and the leadership roles both Barack and Michelle Obama held. Former Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, who served in the Obama administration, also attended. He called the experience beyond any expectations and said the installations remind visitors of the power each person holds to drive change.
A vision bigger than a museum
Ten years ago, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama selected Jackson Park as the site for the center. From the start, they said they wanted the space to be more than a place to store mementos from his presidency. Monday’s soft opening suggested that vision has taken shape.
