Caleb Williams leaked as Madden 27 cover athlete
A social media leak suggests the Bears quarterback could make franchise history with EA Sports
A leak circulating on social media suggests Caleb Williams may be the cover athlete for Madden NFL 27, which would make him the first Chicago Bears player to appear on the main cover of the franchise in its history.
What the leak shows
The image, posted by MUTLeaks, a gaming account on X with more than 125,000 followers, shows Williams striking his signature Iceman pose. He first used the celebration after the Bears’ Week 16 win over the Green Bay Packers last season. The same account also posted what appeared to be the cover for College Football 27. MUTLeaks has a track record of accurate early reveals tied to EA Sports content, though the publisher has not confirmed anything officially.
The only previous Bears connection to a Madden cover came through Roberto Garza, an offensive lineman who appeared on the Spanish-language edition of Madden NFL 09. That was a regional release, not a standard cover.

Williams earned the spotlight in 2025
Williams put together a strong second season with the Bears, finishing with 3,942 passing yards and 31 total touchdowns against seven interceptions in 17 regular season games. He led the Bears to an 11-6 record, their first NFC North title since 2018 and a Wild Card win over the Packers.
His ability to perform late in games stood out. He led the NFL with six fourth-quarter comebacks during the regular season and tied for second with six game-winning drives. Including the postseason, he was involved in a record seven comeback wins.
His completion rate of 58.1% ranked 38th among qualified quarterbacks, which leaves room for growth. Still, his clutch performances and rushing ability kept defenses honest and made him one of the more watchable players in the league.
The Madden curse question
Bears fans have reason to celebrate if the leak holds up, but some are already thinking about the other side of it. The Madden cover curse has followed several athletes over the years. Saquon Barkley, who appeared on Madden 26, went from over 2,000 rushing yards in 2024 to just over 1,100 the following season.
Williams enters his third year in the NFL with a lot to build on. Ball security has been a point of emphasis for the Bears offense under coordinator Ben Johnson, and Williams has been solid in that area through two seasons, finishing with just eight giveaways in his first year in Johnson’s system.
EA Sports has not announced the Madden 27 cover athlete yet. If the leak proves accurate, the Bears faithful will have something to cheer about before the season even starts.
