Simone Biles brought her signature sparkle to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding on Friday, July 3. The ceremony took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Notably, the seven-time Olympic gold medalist attended alongside her husband, Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens, and documented the occasion on her Instagram Stories.
Biles, 29, wore a stunning red wine and metallic gown designed by DO LONG. Meanwhile, Owens, 30, wore a matching suit jacket and was visibly admiring her look in the images she shared. Additionally, a smiling car selfie and a side-by-side couple photo completed the Instagram Story sequence, giving fans a warm glimpse into the evening.
A friendship rooted in mutual admiration
Biles and Swift share a genuine and well-documented friendship. Specifically, their bond traces back most visibly to the 2024 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials. Biles opened her floor routine to Swift’s 2017 track Ready for It. The performance was electric. Consequently, Swift responded publicly on X, expressing amazement at what she had watched. She described rewatching the routine multiple times and declared that Biles was indeed ready for it.
However, Swift’s support for Biles predates that moment. During the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Biles made a widely covered decision to withdraw from several events to prioritize her mental health. In response, Swift appeared in a promotional video for NBC in her support. She described Biles as perfectly human and called her honesty as beautiful as her long-celebrated perfection. Furthermore, Swift characterized her as a hero and said her voice during that week had been as significant as her talents.
Biles responded with visible emotion. She told Swift on social media that she loved her. In turn, Swift replied with equal warmth, saying she felt lucky to have watched Biles’ career across the years. She also added that the Tokyo moment had been a lesson in emotional intelligence and resilience for everyone watching.
What Biles said about their friendship
In October 2024, Biles spoke about her friendship with Swift at the premiere of her Netflix documentary Simone Biles Rising: Part 2. She explained that she had been on tour and, as a result, missed many NFL games. She expressed hope that the two would spend more time together once the tour ended. Additionally, she added a playful note, pointing out that you usually do not bond with opponents, a reference to the friendly rivalry between Swift’s circle and the sports world.
The wedding itself
Swift, 36, and Kelce, 36, announced their engagement on Instagram on August 26, 2025. Their caption read your gym teacher and your English teacher are getting married. Subsequently, the Madison Square Garden wedding on July 3 drew roughly 1,000 guests. Hundreds of celebrities and athletes attended. Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony.
Biles and Owens were among many notable guests who documented the occasion on social media. Other attendees included Ed Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn, Patrick and Brittany Mahomes, Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper, Lena Dunham, Gracie Abrams and Jack Antonoff, among many others.
More than just a celebrity moment
For Biles, attending this wedding carries a meaning beyond celebrity attendance. Swift publicly championed her career and her humanity at its most vulnerable. In return, Biles showed up for Swift on one of the most significant days of her personal life. Consequently, the exchange reflects a friendship built on something far more substantial than shared fame or proximity. Ultimately, that mutual loyalty is exactly what made Biles’ presence at Madison Square Garden on July 3 feel so meaningful.
