Drake has lost another high-profile sports bet. The rapper placed $1 million on Conor McGregor to defeat Max Holloway at UFC 329 on Saturday, July 12. McGregor was returning to the octagon for the first time in five years, and Drake made his support public before the fight even started.
Taking to social media ahead of the bout, Drake celebrated McGregor’s return with a lengthy post referencing his signature brand, tailored suits, yachts and Dubai lifestyle. The message made clear where Drake’s money and confidence sat heading into fight night.
McGregor suffers leg injury 69 seconds in
The fight did not go according to plan. McGregor sustained a leg injury in the opening minute of Round 1. The injury stopped him from continuing, and the referee waved off the contest. The official result gave Holloway the win at just 69 seconds into the fight. Drake’s $1 million disappeared with it.
Had McGregor won, Drake stood to pocket just under $3 million on the bet. Instead, the loss adds to a string of high-profile wager misfortunes that have followed the rapper across major sporting events in recent years.
McGregor responds after the loss
McGregor addressed the outcome on social media after the fight, expressing disbelief at what had happened. He pushed back against suggestions that he was not ready for the fight, insisting he felt sharp and confident walking in. He described the result as shocking and framed his recovery in spiritual terms, saying he planned to attend church the following day and would not be deterred from returning to competition.
McGregor made clear he intends to fight again, ending his statement with a direct promise to return.
