Universal Pictures has officially announced the release date for Snoop, the upcoming biopic about hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg. The highly anticipated film will arrive in theaters on August 6, 2027.
The project will star Outer Banks actor Jonathan Daviss as Calvin Broadus Jr., the rapper who rose to global fame as Snoop Dogg and became one of the most influential figures in hip-hop history.
Jonathan Daviss takes on the role of Snoop Dogg
Daviss will portray Snoop Dogg throughout the film, which aims to tell the story of the rap icon’s rise from Long Beach, California, to international superstardom.
Snoop Dogg built a career that spans music, television, business ventures, and entertainment. His influence has helped shape hip-hop culture for more than three decades.
Craig Brewer directs the biopic
Filmmaker Craig Brewer will direct the project. Brewer is known for acclaimed films such as Hustle & Flow and Song Sung Blue.
Industry reports describe Snoop as the definitive biopic of the artist, entrepreneur, and gangsta rap pioneer.
Screenwriter Joe Robert Cole originally wrote the screenplay. Brewer later revised the script before production moved forward.

The movie will include music from Snoop Dogg’s extensive catalog.
Fans can expect to hear some of his most recognizable songs, including “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” “Gin and Juice,” “What’s My Name,” and “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang.”

Death Row Pictures begins partnership with NBCUniversal
The biopic also represents a major milestone for Death Row Pictures.
Snoop will become the first project produced under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment and Studios.
The partnership signals a new chapter for the entertainment company connected to the legendary Death Row brand, which Snoop Dogg acquired in 2022.
With a major studio release, a well-known director, and a rising star in the lead role, Snoop is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated music biopics of 2027.
