Lizzo is celebrating a major legal victory after a federal judge dismissed the remaining claims in a harassment and discrimination lawsuit involving her touring company.
The case began in 2023 when former wardrobe stylist Asha Daniels sued Lizzo and Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc.
On September 1, U.S. District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha dismissed the remaining claims against the touring company. Lizzo had already left the case as an individual defendant in December 2024.
Lizzo Lawsuit Ends After Judge’s Ruling
Daniels filed the lawsuit after working on Lizzo’s 2023 European tour.
She accused the touring operation of creating a hostile workplace. Her allegations included sexual harassment, racial discrimination and disability discrimination.
However, the judge ruled that Daniels did not present enough evidence for the claims to proceed to trial.
The judge also rejected Daniels’ claims involving alleged racial slurs. He found that the evidence did not establish the required conduct under federal workplace discrimination laws.
Lizzo Reacts to the Court Victory
Following the ruling, Lizzo addressed the decision on Instagram.
The singer expressed relief over the outcome. She also said she had continued to fight the allegations and wanted the truth to prevail.
Lizzo had denied the allegations from the beginning.
She previously called the accusations false and said she would continue defending herself and her businesses.
The latest ruling gives her touring company a complete victory in Daniels’ case.
What the Former Stylist Alleged
Daniels worked on the wardrobe team during Lizzo’s 2023 European tour.
Her lawsuit alleged a range of workplace problems.
She claimed that staff members made sexual comments and gestures. She also alleged racial harassment and unsafe working conditions.
One allegation involved a clothing rack that reportedly struck her foot. Daniels argued that the incident caused an injury that qualified as a disability.
However, Judge Aenlle-Rocha concluded that the alleged injury did not meet the legal standard for a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Judge Says Claims Did Not Meet Federal Standards
The court’s decision focused on whether the alleged conduct violated federal employment laws.
The judge found that the evidence did not establish the type of severe or pervasive workplace hostility required for a Title VII claim.
In addition, he found insufficient evidence to support the disability discrimination allegations.
As a result, the court granted summary judgment in favor of Big Grrrl Big Touring.
The decision ends the remaining claims in Daniels’ lawsuit unless she pursues another legal option.
Daniels’ Attorney Disagrees With the Decision
Daniels’ attorney criticized the ruling.
He argued that the evidence should have gone before a jury rather than ending at the summary judgment stage. He also indicated that the legal team could consider additional steps.
Therefore, the latest ruling may not be the final word from Daniels’ side.
For now, however, the court has ruled in favor of Lizzo’s touring company.
Lizzo Still Faces Other Legal Issues
The ruling does not resolve every legal dispute involving Lizzo.
Three former backup dancers filed a separate lawsuit in 2023. Their case includes allegations involving sexual harassment and a hostile work environment.
Some claims in that case have already been dismissed, while other issues remain under litigation.
As a result, the latest victory represents an important development for Lizzo, but it does not end every legal matter connected to her career.
Lizzo Marks a Major Legal Victory
For Lizzo, the dismissal closes a nearly three-year legal battle involving her touring company.
The singer has consistently denied the allegations in Daniels’ case.
Now, the federal court has dismissed the remaining claims against Big Grrrl Big Touring.
The ruling allows Lizzo and her touring company to move forward from this particular lawsuit.
