The CBCF National Town Hall takes center stage Thursday as the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 55th Annual Legislative Conference continues in Washington, D.C.
The National Town Hall runs from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. ET at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The event forms part of ALC 55, which runs from September 16 through September 20.
This year’s conference carries the theme “Rooted, Ready and Rising.” The theme also marks CBCF’s 50th anniversary and connects its history with conversations about the future.
National Town Hall focuses on Black policy
The town hall carries the title “Forward Together: The Black Policy Playbook for an Equitable America.”
CBCF describes the policy playbook as a framework for addressing major challenges facing Black communities in the United States.
Political strategist and commentator Symone D. Sanders-Townsend and MS NOW senior Washington correspondent Eugene Daniels will moderate the event.
The town hall continues the policy discussions that began when ALC 55 opened Wednesday.
CBCF says the conference features more than 100 issue forums and brain trust sessions. These gatherings bring together elected officials, policymakers, advocates, entrepreneurs, professionals and community leaders.
Voting rights enter the conversation
Voting rights also feature among the resources CBCF highlights alongside Thursday’s town hall.
The foundation has published information about the Supreme Court’s 2026 decision in Louisiana v. Callais. CBCF says the ruling limits race-based district drawing under the Voting Rights Act.
The foundation also launched a tracker that follows state-level redistricting efforts after the ruling.
In addition, CBCF’s 2026 Voting Rights Scorecard examines voting access across 15 states. The scorecard covers areas such as early voting, voter identification, polling places, felony disenfranchisement, election disinformation, vote-by-mail and redistricting.
ALC 55 continues through Sunday
Thursday’s town hall represents one part of a much larger conference schedule.
ALC 55 brings together leaders and community members for policy discussions, professional development, networking and other events.
The conference also includes signature events later in the week. Those events include the Day of Healing and Phoenix Awards Dinner.
Meanwhile, CBCF continues to mark its 50th anniversary throughout the conference.
The foundation began in 1976. Its Annual Legislative Conference has since grown into a major gathering focused on policy, leadership and civic engagement.
As Thursday’s National Town Hall brings leaders and participants together, the conversation turns toward policy ideas and the issues shaping communities across the country.
