A new featurette for Heart of the Beast takes viewers behind the scenes of David Ayer’s upcoming survival thriller. The film stars Brad Pitt as James Belmont, a Special Forces officer who becomes stranded in the Alaskan wilderness with his combat dog, Odin, after a plane crash.
The new footage focuses on the preparation behind Pitt’s role. Ayer discusses the work that went into making the character’s wilderness experience feel grounded. Pitt trained with experts as the production prepared him for a story built around survival, harsh conditions and the bond between a soldier and his dog.
That preparation adds another layer to a film that depends heavily on physical endurance. James is not simply trying to find his way home. He must also protect Odin while dealing with an unforgiving environment.
Brad Pitt takes on a demanding survival role
Heart of the Beast brings together Pitt and Ayer after their previous collaboration on Fury. This time, their story moves away from the battlefield and into the wilderness.
The film follows James and Odin as they try to survive after the crash. Their journey forms the center of the story, with the Alaskan setting creating constant pressure around them.
The featurette also highlights the filmmakers and cast behind the project. J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe join Pitt, while Cameron Alexander wrote the screenplay. Ayer directed and produced the film alongside Olivia Hamilton, Marty Bowen and Pitt.
The production also brought in animal coordinator Andrew Simpson, adding specialist expertise to the work involving Odin.
A new look before the theatrical release
The global premiere took place Sept. 16 at FirstBank Amphitheater in Franklin, Tennessee. Pitt, Ayer, Simmons, Lambe and Lambe were among the cast and filmmakers attending the event.
The new featurette gives audiences another look at the work behind the film before its theatrical arrival. Paramount Pictures has scheduled Heart of the Beast for theaters on Sept. 25, 2026.
For Pitt, the role brings together physical preparation, survival skills and a story centered on loyalty. For Ayer, it offers another opportunity to explore characters under extreme pressure.
The featurette leaves the larger journey for audiences to discover when the film reaches theaters.
