Jalen Brunson traded the basketball court for the Saturday Night Live stage on Saturday night.
The New York Knicks star hosted the Season 52 premiere of SNL, making history as the first Knicks player to host the long-running sketch comedy show.
Brunson also brought some familiar faces with him. His Knicks teammates Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Josh Hart joined him during the show.
Jalen Brunson brings Knicks energy to SNL
Brunson opened the show with jokes about his NBA career and his approach to hosting.
The NBA champion told the live audience that he planned to treat hosting SNL like the Knicks’ NBA Finals games.
He then joked that the first three quarters would be terrible before promising a great final sketch.
The comment immediately brought his basketball mindset into the comedy setting.
Knicks teammates join Brunson on stage
Brunson’s teammates also became part of the fun.
During an audience question segment, Towns, Bridges, Anunoby and Hart raised their hands to participate.
Towns joked about whether he could foul out of SNL. Brunson assured him that he would be safe.
The joke referenced Towns’ near foul-out during the NBA Finals in June.
Anunoby also used the moment to tease Brunson about a missed shot during Game 4. Brunson quickly reminded him that Anunoby tipped the ball in.
The exchange gave viewers a glimpse of the chemistry between the Knicks players.
Brunson mixes basketball with comedy
Brunson entered the SNL premiere following a huge year for the Knicks.
In June, he and his teammates defeated the San Antonio Spurs to win the 2026 NBA championship.
The championship run helped turn Brunson into one of the biggest names in New York sports. His SNL appearance added another unexpected chapter to his busy year.
The guard also appeared during the 2026 Emmys and later visited the set of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit with Mariska Hargitay.
Now, his résumé includes hosting one of television’s most recognizable comedy shows.
Katseye joins Jalen Brunson for SNL premiere
Brunson shared the Season 52 premiere with musical guest Katseye.
The group performed during the episode as Brunson took on several sketches throughout the night.
After the final performances, Brunson signaled that his comedy detour would not last forever.
He told viewers he was ready to return to his “real job.”
For one night, however, the Knicks star made the jump from NBA champion to SNL host.
And he did it with his teammates right beside him.
