The Rescue Official Trailer is Here: Sklenar’s Fight Begins

Brandon Sklenar is trading the rodeo arena for a high-stakes rescue mission. The trailer, poster and first film stills for “The Rescue” are now available ahead of the movie’s January 2027 release.

Sklenar stars as a former rodeo cowboy who takes matters into his own hands after his daughter is kidnapped for ransom. With his loyal dog by his side, he sets out on a relentless journey to bring her home.

A modern western with a personal stakes

Industry insiders have compared the film’s premise to Liam Neeson’s “Taken,” reimagined through a cowboy lens. The setup gives Sklenar a chance to blend the grounded physicality of his rodeo background with the kind of high-tension action rarely paired with the western genre.

Potsy Ponciroli directs the film from a screenplay by John Fusco, known for writing “Young Guns” and “Hidalgo.” Ponciroli previously directed the acclaimed western “Old Henry,” which also starred cast member Tim Blake Nelson.

A stacked ensemble cast

Sklenar leads a cast that includes Josh Lucas, Hassie Harrison, Lorelei Olivia Mote and Nick Searcy. Austin Amelio, Spencer Treat Clark, Tim Blake Nelson and Josh Duhamel round out the ensemble.

The film reunites Ponciroli with Nelson after their work together on “Old Henry.” Lucas and Harrison both bring experience from within the “Yellowstone” universe, adding another layer of western pedigree to the project.

Sklenar’s rising profile

“The Rescue” arrives during a major stretch for Sklenar’s career. He broke out playing Spencer Dutton in “1923” before starring in “It Ends With Us,” “Drop” and “The Housemaid.”

He is also set to appear in the Warner Bros. action film “F.A.S.T.,” reuniting him with “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan. Sklenar has additionally signed a first-look deal with Lionsgate, signaling a growing presence across major studio projects.

Behind the production

Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group present the film in association with Domain Entertainment. Shannon Houchins, Cliff Roberts and Ponciroli produced the project through Hideout Productions.

Executive producers include Eric Hedayat, John Fusco, Tim McGraw, Tim Staples and Brian Kaplan, along with Joel Bergvall, Gary Barber, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro and Andrew Lary. “The Rescue” has not yet received an official rating ahead of its release.

When to watch

“The Rescue” opens exclusively in theaters on January 29, 2027. The film adds to a growing slate of modern westerns aiming to draw audiences back to the genre.
