Autumn travel destinations could offer travelers lower hotel prices, comfortable temperatures and fewer summer crowds. A study by digital entertainment platform BC Game found that accommodation prices in several popular destinations fall significantly after the summer peak.
According to the research, Ibiza, Spain, leads the ranking. Hotel prices there drop from a reported $254 per night in summer to $60 in autumn, a reduction of about 76%.
The study examined 30 popular destinations, comparing hotel prices in August with rates in late October. Researchers also considered average autumn temperatures and combined the results into an off-peak score out of 100.
The findings suggest that travelers may save money by adjusting their travel dates rather than choosing a different destination. However, actual hotel prices vary by property, booking dates and availability.
Ibiza, Spain

Ibiza ranks first among the autumn travel destinations in the study, with an off-peak score of 100 out of 100. Its reported average autumn temperature is 23°C, while hotel prices fall from $254 per night to $60.
That represents a reduction of approximately 76%, making Ibiza the study’s strongest destination for potential accommodation savings.
Beyond the lower rates, autumn offers another reason to visit. Travelers can explore Ibiza’s historic old town, enjoy coastal views and discover quieter beaches after the busy summer season.
However, visitors should check opening dates before traveling because some seasonal beach clubs and attractions may reduce their hours or close after summer.
Santorini, Greece

Santorini takes second place, with the study reporting an autumn temperature of 23°C. Hotel prices fall from $180 per night in summer to $83 in autumn, a reduction of nearly 54%.
The Greek island is known for its whitewashed buildings, blue-domed churches and views across the caldera. Visiting later in the year may allow travelers to explore these attractions without the same level of summer crowds.
Furthermore, the lower reported accommodation prices could make a stay more affordable. Travelers should still compare individual hotels and confirm which restaurants, boat tours and attractions operate during their chosen dates.
Nice, France

Nice ranks third, offering a reported autumn temperature of 21°C. The research puts summer hotel prices at $229 per night, compared with $103 in autumn.
That difference represents a reduction of about 55%.
Located on the French Riviera, Nice offers coastal walks, outdoor dining and access to cultural attractions. The Promenade des Anglais is a popular place to walk along the Mediterranean, while the city’s old town provides restaurants, markets and historic streets to explore.
As a result, autumn may appeal to travelers who want a coastal getaway without paying peak-season hotel rates.
Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona ranks fourth on the list. According to the study, average autumn temperatures reach 22°C, while hotel prices fall from $282 per night to $165.
The reported reduction is about 41%.
Travelers can explore the Gothic Quarter, visit the Sagrada Família and enjoy the city’s food scene during autumn. The milder weather can also make walking between attractions more comfortable than during the hottest summer days.
Nevertheless, Barcelona remains a popular tourist destination throughout the year. Booking early and comparing accommodation options can help travelers find better value.
Split, Croatia

Split rounds out the study’s top five. The Croatian coastal city records a reported autumn temperature of 20°C, while hotel prices drop from $260 per night in summer to $117.
This represents a 55% reduction in the study.
Split offers historic architecture, waterfront views and access to the Adriatic coast. Its old town, including the area around Diocletian’s Palace, provides plenty to explore beyond the beach.
Although autumn can bring a quieter atmosphere, travelers should check ferry schedules and seasonal tour availability before planning trips to nearby islands.
Kyoto, Japan

Kyoto ranks sixth and stands out because the study lists spring, rather than summer, as its peak season. The city attracts visitors during cherry blossom season, while autumn offers another opportunity to experience its historic temples and colorful foliage.
BC Game’s research records an average autumn temperature of 23°C. Hotel prices fall from $190 per night to $120, a reduction of nearly 37%.
However, Kyoto’s autumn foliage season can also attract substantial crowds. Travelers should compare prices for their exact dates rather than assume every autumn week will be cheaper.
Athens, Greece

Athens ranks seventh, with the study reporting an average autumn temperature of 23°C. Hotel prices fall from $240 per night in summer to $189 in autumn, a reduction of about 21%.
The Greek capital offers historical sites, museums and outdoor dining. Autumn’s milder conditions can make exploring landmarks such as the Acropolis more comfortable than during the peak summer heat.
Although its reported savings are smaller than those of Ibiza or Santorini, Athens remains an option for travelers interested in history and culture.
Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon ranks eighth on the list. The study reports autumn temperatures of 23°C and a hotel price reduction of approximately 38%.
Accommodation rates fall from $147 per night in summer to $91 in autumn.
Portugal’s capital offers historic neighborhoods, scenic viewpoints, traditional food and tram rides through its hilly streets. Travelers can also explore nearby coastal areas, although weather conditions and seasonal services may vary.
With lower reported hotel rates, Lisbon could be worth considering for visitors seeking a European city break after summer.
Florence, Italy

Florence takes ninth place, with an average autumn temperature of 21°C. According to the research, hotel prices fall from $172 per night in summer to $127 in autumn, a reduction of about 26%.
The Italian city is known for Renaissance art, historic architecture and museums. Cooler weather can make walking through its streets and visiting cultural landmarks more comfortable.
However, travelers should compare hotel rates across different dates because major events and popular travel periods can influence prices.
Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik completes the ranking. The study reports that hotel prices fall from $313 per night in summer to $172 in autumn, representing a reduction of approximately 45%.
The Croatian city is famous for its historic walls, terracotta rooftops and Adriatic views. Autumn may provide a more relaxed setting for exploring its old town and coastal scenery.
Even so, travelers should check local transport schedules and the availability of boat trips before booking, especially toward the end of the season.
What the Study Means for Autumn Travelers
The BC Game research suggests that changing travel dates could make some popular destinations more affordable. Ibiza records the largest reported hotel price reduction, while Santorini, Nice, Split and Dubrovnik also show substantial differences between summer and autumn rates.
Still, the figures represent the study’s comparison rather than guaranteed prices for every hotel. The research compared the same property in each destination across different periods, but travelers should confirm current rates before making reservations.
Autumn travel also involves trade-offs. Some seasonal attractions may close, weather can change and popular destinations can remain busy during holidays or major events.
For travelers seeking a balance between cost, weather and sightseeing, comparing dates in September and October may reveal useful options. The best choice will depend on each traveler’s budget, preferred activities and flexibility.
