Rick Ross’s arraignment in Miami has been postponed until November 6 as his defense attorneys reportedly argue that prosecutors have not formally filed charges in his domestic violence case.
According to WSVN 7News, the rapper was expected to appear in court on Thursday, October 22. However, the hearing was rescheduled after his lawyers raised concerns about the status of the charges.
The delay does not mean the case has been dismissed. Ross continues to fight the allegations and has entered a not guilty plea through his attorney.
Rick Ross court hearing moved to November 6
Ross’s next hearing is scheduled for Friday, November 6. WSVN reported that he is not expected to attend that proceeding.
The explanation for the postponement came from Ross’s defense team, which said prosecutors had not formally filed the charges. The report did not establish through a court finding that the charges remain unfiled.
Ross faces allegations of felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery. Both charges relate to an alleged domestic violence incident.
The rapper, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, has maintained his innocence as the legal process continues.
Rick Ross faces battery allegations
Ross surrendered to Miami Beach police on October 1 after authorities investigated an alleged incident at his Star Island residence.
According to reports from ABC News, authorities booked the rapper on one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor count of battery.
His attorney, Bradley Horenstein, entered a not guilty plea on his behalf during the initial court proceedings. Attorney Steve Sadow is also representing Ross.
The allegations stem from an incident reportedly dated August 28. WSVN identified the accuser as Jazzma Kendrick, Ross’s former girlfriend, who reported the alleged incident to police on September 29.
According to an arrest affidavit described by CBS News Miami, Kendrick told investigators that Ross became angry after seeing an Instagram photograph in which she had been tagged.
The allegations have not been established as facts in court. Ross remains entitled to the presumption of innocence as the case proceeds.
What happens next in Rick Ross’s case?
The November 6 hearing is the next scheduled step in the proceedings. The status of the charges and any further court action will determine how the case moves forward.
For now, the postponement represents a delay in the legal process rather than a resolution. Ross continues to contest the allegations, and the case remains ongoing.
Further developments may clarify the status of the charges and the next steps for both the defense and prosecutors.
