Keke Palmer finally addressed the romance everyone has been talking about
Keke Palmer is not putting a label on things just yet, but she is not exactly keeping quiet either. The actress and entertainer, 32, addressed her relationship with Hot Ones host Sean Evans, 40, during an appearance at Spotify’s Conversations That Channel Culture panel at Cannes Lions on Tuesday, June 23, and her response was as charming and disarming as anyone who follows her would expect.
Fellow podcast host Jay Shetty asked Palmer directly whether she was serious about Evans. Rather than deflecting entirely, she leaned in with a grin and confirmed that the two are very much spending time together. She described Evans warmly as her guy and noted that she loves him deeply as a person. Beyond that, she said, neither of them is rushing anything. They are taking it day by day, she explained, adding a perfectly on-brand food pun given Evans’ professional identity.
One wing at a time, she told the audience.
A connection nearly a decade in the making
The chemistry between Palmer and Evans is not new. It has been building quietly and publicly for almost nine years, dating back to their first encounter in 2017 when Palmer appeared as a guest on Hot Ones. That episode quickly became one of the most watched and talked-about in the show’s history, largely because the two had an almost immediate on-screen rapport that stood out even among a long list of memorable celebrity appearances.
Their story picked up fresh momentum this year when Evans appeared on the May 26 episode of Palmer’s podcast, Baby, This is Keke Palmer. During that conversation, the two revisited their nearly decade-long dynamic and reflected on what made their original Hot Ones episode so special to both of them. Evans expressed genuine admiration for Palmer, calling her charismatic, smart and beautiful while explaining why she had been such an ideal guest on his show years earlier.
For her part, Palmer admitted she had always wondered whether Evans was simply being professional during their first filming together or whether he was genuinely enjoying himself as much as she was. His answer on the podcast cleared that up immediately. He told her they were on the exact same wavelength and feeling the same thing at the same time.
A kiss that set the internet on fire
The romance speculation reached a fever pitch after Palmer returned as a guest on Hot Ones and, in a moment that felt equal parts spontaneous and inevitable, asked whether they could share a quick kiss to test whether there was a spark between them. They did. The internet responded accordingly.
That moment followed a 2023 appearance Evans made on Amelia Dimoldenberg’s Chicken Shop Date, during which he openly admitted to having had a crush on Palmer. Two years later, Palmer jokingly called his bluff on his own show, and the resulting moment became one of the more talked-about celebrity interactions of the year.
Last month, Palmer shared a video to social media revisiting several clips that captured their undeniable chemistry over the years, further fueling speculation that the two had moved well beyond a simple friendship.
Taking it slow and enjoying every moment
What makes Palmer’s Cannes Lions comments particularly endearing is the lightness with which she handles a question that many celebrities would either dodge or over-explain. She is clearly fond of Evans. She is equally clearly not interested in rushing a definition onto something she is enjoying at its own pace.
Palmer has spoken previously about being more open to love following her split from Darius Jackson three years ago, while also saying she feels no pressure to find it on anyone else’s timeline. Her approach to the Evans situation reflects exactly that mindset. Something real and warm is developing between two people who have genuinely liked each other for the better part of a decade, and for now, that appears to be entirely enough.
The rest of the world, naturally, will be watching closely.
