Tamar Braxton is embracing a new chapter in her career. The Grammy-nominated singer, television personality and actress is stepping into the suspense genre with Tubi’s new thriller Stepfather while continuing to expand her career through music, television and live performances.
During a recent interview, Braxton reflected on filming the psychological thriller alongside Taye Diggs, shared dating advice drawn from her own experiences and revealed that Broadway remains one of her biggest career goals.
Tamar Braxton stars in Tubi thriller Stepfather
In Stepfather, Braxton plays a single mother who believes she has found love again. However, her new husband begins showing signs that he may be hiding a dangerous secret.
The suspense-filled story centers on trust, family and deception. A tense family dinner featured in the trailer hints that the mystery only deepens as the film unfolds.
Braxton admitted that starring in a thriller was different from her previous acting work. Even so, she described the experience as enjoyable.
She also praised co-star Taye Diggs and said filming together brought plenty of laughter despite the movie’s dark subject matter.
Tamar Braxton says she relates to her character
Although Stepfather tells a fictional story, Braxton revealed that she connected with her character on a personal level.
She explained that both she and the character have searched for love while sometimes overlooking warning signs.
Braxton laughed as she admitted she has ignored red flags in past relationships because she wanted love so badly.
That honesty sparked a broader conversation about dating and recognizing unhealthy behavior before becoming emotionally invested.
The biggest dating red flag, according to Tamar Braxton
When asked about the biggest relationship red flag, Braxton pointed to people who appear too perfect too quickly.
According to her, anyone who immediately presents themselves as a “knight in shining armor” deserves extra caution.
She believes genuine character reveals itself over time rather than during the early stages of dating.
Braxton also noted that many people initially introduce a polished version of themselves before eventually showing who they truly are.
Honesty is the green flag she wants
While discussing healthy relationships, Braxton said honesty remains the quality she values most.
At 49, she explained that she is dating with intention rather than looking for casual relationships.
She wants someone with similar values who communicates openly from the beginning.
Braxton added that transparency helps build trust and prevents unnecessary surprises later in a relationship.
Tamar Braxton reflects on Toni Braxton and Birdman’s romance
The conversation also turned to her sister Toni Braxton’s marriage to Birdman.
Braxton confirmed that she introduced the couple.
She explained that Birdman had admired Toni for years and always approached the relationship with clear intentions.
Because she already knew both of them personally, Braxton believed their relationship had the potential to become something lasting.
Family memories still inspire Tamar Braxton
Braxton also shared one of her favorite childhood memories with her sisters.
She recalled harmonizing together in the bathroom as young children while jokingly singing about running out of toilet paper.
That spontaneous performance convinced their mother the Braxton sisters had remarkable musical talent.
Today, music and family remain closely connected in Braxton’s life.
She recently launched a cooking show with her mother, Evelyn Braxton, to showcase the recipes and traditions that helped shape their family.
Braxton said the kitchen has always served as the heart of the Braxton household.
Broadway remains Tamar Braxton’s biggest dream
Despite her success in music, television and film, Braxton still has one major goal she hopes to accomplish.
She revealed that Broadway is at the top of her career wish list.
Braxton also expressed excitement about returning to live audiences through her “Dinner With Tamar” tour, where she shares personal stories behind her songs while performing at wineries across the country.
She described the stage as her “happy place,” explaining that performing live allows her to feel completely free.
As she continues balancing acting, music and television, Braxton believes audiences are finally seeing a new version of herself—one that embraces growth, authenticity and new creative opportunities.
