A settlement between grandmother and guardians
Pamela Warner, the actor’s mother, has reached an agreement with the guardians representing her granddaughter regarding a share of Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s fortune. The deal still needs court approval before it becomes final. His widow, Tenisha Warner, has not commented on the arrangement and does not appear to have been part of negotiating it.
Under the agreement, Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s trust was originally split among his mother, his father and his sister, while he separately provided for his wife and daughter outside that trust, to the tune of millions of dollars. The new settlement allows his daughter to receive the majority of the remaining trust and estate. It also covers her college tuition. Pamela Warner has said the arrangement serves her granddaughter’s best interest and preserves their relationship going forward.
The settlement follows a lawsuit Tenisha Warner filed last month, in which she alleged her daughter had been wrongfully left out of Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s estate. Pamela Warner has pushed back on recent public statements from Tenisha, denying any effort to keep her granddaughter from receiving financial support, and describing her son as thoughtful and deliberate in how he planned his estate.
A fundraiser for his widow and daughter
Separately, a fundraising campaign has been drawing attention to the toll the past year has taken on Tenisha Warner and her daughter. The woman behind the effort, Destiny Rael, spoke publicly this week about how difficult the year has been for the family, describing their lives as completely upended since Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s passing.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for playing Theo Huxtable on “The Cosby Show,” passed away in July 2025 while swimming during a family vacation in Costa Rica, after being caught in a strong rip current. He was 54.
