Angélique Kidjo is making history with the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The five-time Grammy-winning Beninese artist has become the first Black African artist to receive a star on the famous Hollywood landmark.
The honor recognizes Kidjo’s decades-long career and global impact on music. Her selection also marks an important moment for African representation in the entertainment industry.
Angélique Kidjo Hollywood Walk of Fame honor
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce selected Kidjo as part of the Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2026. She was chosen in the Recording category alongside artists including Miley Cyrus, Josh Groban, Lyle Lovett, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and The Clark Sisters.
The class was selected from hundreds of nominations. The Hollywood Chamber announced the honorees in July 2025.
Kidjo’s star adds another major achievement to an already celebrated career. She has spent more than four decades performing around the world while bringing African sounds and culture to international audiences.
Angélique Kidjo’s musical legacy
Born in Benin, Kidjo developed a distinctive sound that blends West African music with genres such as jazz, funk, reggae and other global influences.
