Camron Jones is stepping into one of hip-hop’s most recognizable roles.
The actor will portray Tupac Shakur in Snoop, Universal Pictures’ upcoming biopic about rap icon Snoop Dogg. The casting adds another major piece to a movie that brings several familiar names from music and entertainment to the big screen.
Craig Brewer directs the film, which will explore Snoop Dogg’s rise from Long Beach, California, to global stardom.
Snoop Dogg Biopic Adds Camron Jones as Tupac
Jones joins the cast after building credits across television and streaming projects. Fans may recognize him from Amazon Prime Video’s Panic, as well as appearances in grown-ish, The Purge and Shameless.
His role as Tupac places him at the center of an important chapter in Snoop Dogg’s story.
Tupac and Snoop became connected through Death Row Records during the height of West Coast hip-hop. The two artists also worked together on music, including the track “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.”
Their relationship later became complicated as tensions grew between the West Coast and East Coast rap scenes.
Jonathan Daviss Plays Snoop Dogg
Jonathan Daviss will take on the role of Snoop Dogg in the upcoming film.
The actor is best known for playing Pope Heyward on Netflix’s Outer Banks. He will portray Snoop during the rapper’s early career, when he emerged from Long Beach and became one of the biggest names in hip-hop.
The cast also includes Myles Bullock Be as Dr. Dre and Lauren London as Snoop Dogg’s mother.
Together, the actors will help bring the rapper’s early years and rise to fame to the screen.
Tupac and Snoop’s Complicated History
Tupac became one of the most influential rappers of the 1990s. He also built a career in Hollywood, appearing in movies such as Poetic Justice and Gridlock’d.
His life ended in 1996 after he suffered fatal injuries in a Las Vegas drive-by shooting.
Before his death, Tupac and Snoop shared a close professional connection through Death Row Records. Their friendship later faced tension as Tupac pushed Snoop to take a stronger position in the growing rap rivalry.
The film is expected to explore that period as part of Snoop’s larger story.
Craig Brewer Leads the Snoop Biopic
Brewer directs Snoop and also wrote the latest version of the screenplay. Joe Robert Cole previously wrote the script.
Brian Grazer, the veteran producer behind films including 8 Mile, is producing through Imagine Entertainment alongside Allan Mandelbaum. Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker are also producing.
The project will also feature music from Snoop Dogg’s extensive catalog, giving the film an opportunity to revisit some of the songs that shaped his career.
Jones’ casting as Tupac adds another layer to the movie’s focus on Snoop’s connections to some of hip-hop’s most influential figures.
The Snoop Dogg biopic is still in development, but its growing cast is already generating interest among music and movie fans.
With Daviss portraying Snoop, Jones taking on Tupac and Bullock Be playing Dr. Dre, the film is assembling a cast to recreate a defining era in West Coast hip-hop.
