The 55th Annual Legislative Conference continues Friday in Washington, D.C., as the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation brings another day of policy conversations and leadership programming to ALC 55.
The five-day conference runs from September 16 through September 20 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This year’s gathering marks the 50th anniversary of CBCF and carries the theme “Rooted, Ready and Rising.”
After Wednesday’s opening events and Thursday’s National Town Hall, Friday gives attendees another opportunity to connect around issues affecting Black communities.
ALC 55 keeps policy in focus
CBCF describes ALC as a major public policy gathering that brings together elected officials, policymakers, advocates, professionals, students and community leaders.
The conference features more than 100 in-person issue forums and established brain trust sessions. These conversations cover a wide range of topics, including economic opportunity, healthcare, education, voting rights and criminal justice.
As a result, Friday’s programming continues the broader policy discussions that have shaped the conference since its opening.
The “Rooted, Ready and Rising” theme also connects those discussions with CBCF’s history.
The foundation established itself in 1976. Now, 50 years later, CBCF is using the anniversary to highlight leadership, public policy and civic engagement.
Leaders and communities share the space
ALC 55 brings people from several sectors together under one roof.
Lawmakers can connect with advocates and policy experts. At the same time, students and emerging leaders can engage with professionals who work across government, business, education and community organizations.
CBCF says the conference creates space for networking, professional development and conversations about issues facing Black Americans and the global Black community.
Friday therefore serves as part of a larger exchange of ideas.
The conference is not limited to political discussions. CBCF also includes cultural programming, networking opportunities, exhibits and signature events throughout the five-day gathering.
The weekend brings major events
Friday also sets the stage for ALC 55’s final weekend.
Saturday will feature two of the conference’s major signature events: the Day of Healing and the Phoenix Awards.
The Day of Healing will take place Saturday morning. Later that evening, the Phoenix Awards will bring the conference’s ceremonial programming into focus.
Meanwhile, ALC 55 continues to celebrate CBCF’s five decades of work.
The conference theme reflects that milestone by connecting the organization’s history with its future.
For attendees, Friday offers another chance to participate in the conversations, connections and leadership activities that define ALC 55.
As the conference moves toward its final weekend, the focus remains on policy, community engagement and the next generation of leaders.
