Former NBA star J.R. Smith was arrested Tuesday in Texas on a family violence charge, according to Hunt County jail records.
The two-time NBA champion faces a charge of assault causing bodily injury involving family violence, TMZ reported. Smith was booked in Hunt County on Sept. 29.
The arrest comes years after Smith established himself as one of the NBA’s most recognizable guards.

According to jail records, authorities booked Smith on the family violence-related assault charge.
TMZ reported that Smith remained in custody as of Tuesday morning. Other reports also said officials had not set a bond at that time.

He also earned the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award with the New York Knicks in 2013.

In May, he graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with a liberal arts degree, according to reports.
