Dak Prescott was not pleased when a man called the Dallas Cowboys’ loss embarrassing as the quarterback walked toward the locker room Thursday night.
The exchange happened after Dallas lost 24-16 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 8. The defeat was especially disappointing for the Cowboys because Tampa Bay entered the game without a win. The Buccaneers also had rookie free-agent quarterback Jalon Daniels starting in place of the injured Baker Mayfield.
Video of the incident spread online after the game. The man’s comment could be heard as Prescott walked past him. According to sports reporter Sam Gannon, the man was a car service driver.
Prescott appeared to look toward the man after hearing the remark. When the man said something else after Prescott looked away, the quarterback turned back and challenged him.
You said it once I looked off, huh? Prescott said. In another video, Prescott could be heard telling a Cowboys employee to remove the man. Tough guy, get his [expletive] out of here, the quarterback said. The interaction quickly became a talking point after Dallas’ disappointing performance.
Prescott explains why the comment bothered him
During his postgame news conference, Prescott explained that he did not object to the man expressing his opinion. He took issue with the way the man allegedly avoided looking at him while making the remarks.
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott got cat-called by someone in the tunnel. Someone called out embarrassing! Prescott heard it, said something back, and then pointed the person out to a Cowboys employee. https://t.co/5qImPdjT1s

Feel free to speak your mind, just speak it, Prescott said. He added that people should be prepared to stand by their words rather than turn away when someone responds.
Prescott also said he regretted that the exchange had become part of the conversation after the game.
The quarterback was then asked whether he considered the loss embarrassing. He acknowledged that Dallas had been expected to win but said using that word could take credit away from Tampa Bay.
Prescott praised the Buccaneers’ defensive approach and head coach Todd Bowles, noting that the team had executed a plan that helped secure the victory.
Still, he did not hide his disappointment.
We were definitely supposed to win this game, Prescott said. He added that teams in the NFL must take care of games they are expected to win, especially when a winless opponent visits their home stadium for a prime-time matchup.
Cowboys coach calls the moment motivating
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer was also asked about the exchange. He described the comment as motivating and said the team remained confident in its players and coaches.
An employee inside AT&T Stadium said “embarrassing,” after that Cowboys loss.

Schottenheimer did not say the remark was disrespectful when asked about it. Instead, he emphasized that people were entitled to express their opinions and that the Cowboys needed to focus on their response.
We believe the solution is in this room, Schottenheimer said, adding that the team would return to work.
Prescott completed 24 of 42 passes for 316 yards and one touchdown against Tampa Bay. He also threw two interceptions, including a late pick that followed a pass deflected into the air and intercepted by Buccaneers linebacker Alex Anzalone.
The loss dropped Dallas to 2-3 for the season, while Tampa Bay earned its first victory. For Prescott and the Cowboys, the immediate challenge is moving past the defeat and correcting the mistakes that cost them the game.
