Hey y’all hey! Welcome back to According to Porsha, your go-to spot for culture, excellence and authenticity. It’s time for Haute to Watch, where we highlight the shows and films worth your screen time.
This week brings legal drama, political secrets, superheroes, family, faith and stories of reinvention. Here’s what deserves a spot on your watchlist.
Reasonable Doubt Season 4
First up is season four of Reasonable Doubt, now streaming on Hulu.
Jax Stewart is back, but new faces are changing the game. Tank stars as a powerful R&B artist whose media scandal could threaten Jax’s new firm. Meanwhile, Meagan Good joins the story as the new district attorney.
La La Anthony, Rutina Wesley and Taylor Polidore Williams also bring more celebrity drama, journalism and marital conflict to the series. The big question is whether these new characters will deepen Jax’s world or distract from the legal drama.
Animals
Next is Animals, starring Kerry Washington and Ben Affleck. The film arrives Friday, October 9, on Netflix and in select theaters.
When someone kidnaps the son of a Los Angeles mayoral candidate and his wife, the couple must raise the ransom. At the same time, they must protect secrets that could destroy their family and threaten his political future.
Washington is always worth watching. However, the bigger question is whether her character will have equal power in the crisis or be expected to carry the burden of a powerful man’s ambition.
WAR
If sharp legal dramas are your thing, add WAR to your list. The series follows two leading London law firms as they battle over a high-profile divorce. The case involves a tech billionaire and his movie-star wife.
Sienna Miller, Dominic West, Nina Sosanya and Archie Panjabi lead the cast. With money, ambition and betrayal at the center, WAR explores what happens when a marriage becomes a public fight. The series is available on HBO Max.
Lanterns
We may have been sleeping on Lanterns. Aaron Pierre stars as John Stewart, opposite Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. The two Green Lanterns investigate a murder in the American heartland. However, the case soon draws them into a much larger mystery on Earth.
All eight episodes are available on HBO Max. One major reason to watch is Pierre’s journey as John Stewart grows from a new recruit into a hero ready to help shape the franchise’s future.
The Drop: A Snowfall Saga
Also on the list is The Drop: A Snowfall Saga, starring Gail Bean as Wanda Bell. Wanda sees the cultural power of West Coast rap before many people around her understand its potential. After working to rebuild her own life, she now wants to create opportunities for others.
Her journey raises an important question: Must Wanda leave her past behind to move forward, or can she use those experiences to build something better? Watch The Drop on FX and Hulu.
Fatherless No More
For documentary lovers, Fatherless No More explores the work of former Super Bowl champion and pastor Tim Johnson. Johnson moved into an RV on Rikers Island to minister to incarcerated men. The film looks at faith, fatherlessness, incarceration and redemption.
It offers a look at the role faith can play in the lives of men facing difficult circumstances. The documentary is available to rent or purchase on Prime Video.
Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars
Food lovers also have a reason to tune in this week. Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars takes viewers inside elite restaurants competing for one of the culinary world’s highest honors.
The dishes may look beautiful, but the pressure behind them tells another story. The series explores ambition, sacrifice and the cost of chasing perfection in the kitchen. Watch it on Apple TV.
Place These Titles on Your Viewing Calendar
