Anika Rashaun, known for her appearances on MTV’s The Real World and The Challenge, has died at 34 after battling breast cancer. Friends shared tributes to the reality TV alum, remembering her as a loyal friend whose life touched those around her.
Rashaun died on Oct. 1, according to reports. She had been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer the previous year. News of her death became public through tributes from people close to her, including longtime friend Tiara Ramos.
Ramos shared a tribute on Oct. 22, which would have been Rashaun’s 35th birthday. She described their bond as one that had lasted for more than two decades and remembered Rashaun as someone who stood by the people she loved.
Anika Rashaun built a life beyond reality TV
Rashaun appeared on The Real World: Seattle: Bad Blood in 2016 before competing on The Challenge: Invasion of the Champions in 2017.
After her time on television, she pursued work as a dating coach and matchmaker. She also developed her ASKANIKA lifestyle brand and hosted a podcast. Her social media profile described her interest in becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist.
Rashaun’s life also included a major personal milestone earlier this year. She married Kyle Walker-Rehn on Valentine’s Day, just seven months before her death.
In a post shared after the wedding, she described the day as a dream and said she and her husband could not have imagined a more perfect celebration.
Friend raises concerns about breast cancer screening
Ramos also spoke about the circumstances surrounding Rashaun’s diagnosis. According to her tribute, Rashaun’s mother had previously had breast cancer, but Rashaun was not identified as high-risk or advised by her doctors to prioritize mammograms.
Ramos described that experience as a failure in the medical care her friend received. Her comments reflect the family’s and friends’ concerns about Rashaun’s experience, rather than an independently established finding about her medical care.
Rashaun and Ramos launched a project called Breast Friends Forever after the diagnosis, bringing their friendship into a shared effort connected to her cancer journey.
Friends remember her loyalty and adventurous spirit
Ramos remembered Rashaun as fiercely loyal, loving and unapologetically herself. She also recalled her willingness to take risks, including moving to Thailand without knowing anyone there.
Their friendship spanned more than 20 years, and Ramos described the loss as deeply personal. She wrote about the instinct to reach for the phone to contact her friend, even while trying to process her absence.
Rashaun’s death leaves behind her husband, family, friends and people who knew her through reality television. Tributes continue to remember her not only for her time on screen, but also for the relationships and ambitions that shaped her life.
