Marvel Animation’s Marvel Zombies is returning for a second season, delighting fans who couldn’t get enough of the four-episode mini-event that debuted in 2025. While it wasn’t the highest-rated series in Marvel’s streaming lineup, the first season captured a massive audience and left viewers hungry for more.

Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of streaming content, confirmed that development is underway for new episodes. Fans are set to experience fresh storylines and an MCU-first moment that has never appeared in the franchise before.

The first season set a high bar

The initial season delivered an unforgettable take on the zombie apocalypse, earning praise for a scene that rivals iconic moments in live-action zombie cinema. Its mix of horror, humor, and classic Marvel characters created a distinct tone that separated it from other animated series.

Season 1 also explored themes of survival and morality in a world overrun by the undead, blending suspense with Marvel’s signature storytelling. The unique combination of familiar heroes facing terrifying threats made the show an instant talking point among fans and critics alike.

What to expect in season 2

According to Winderbaum, the second season will expand the universe in ways that were not possible during the first. He teased that viewers can expect unprecedented moments in the MCU, suggesting bold storytelling choices and surprising character arcs.

Bryan Andrews, the director behind the first season, has already begun developing the new episodes. Though the series hasn’t officially entered production, early animatics hint at high-stakes action and inventive scenarios that will push the boundaries of animated superhero storytelling.

Release timeline remains uncertain

Marvel Television has not confirmed an exact release date. Given the typical production schedule for animated series, fans may need to wait until 2027, 2028, or later to see the new season on Disney Plus. Despite the wait, anticipation is already building for the return of the undead heroes and villains.

Why fans are excited

There are three main reasons fans are thrilled about season 2. First, the series promises to expand the Marvel Zombies universe with new plot twists and character transformations. Second, the show continues to explore a darker, more intense side of the MCU, contrasting the often-lighthearted tone of other animated offerings. Third, the first season left several unanswered questions and cliffhangers, making the return highly anticipated.

Season 2 also offers Marvel the opportunity to experiment with animation techniques and narrative structures, potentially setting a new benchmark for superhero animated series. This blend of creativity, suspense, and MCU connectivity ensures that Marvel Zombies remains a must-watch for fans of both Marvel and zombie storytelling.

The impact on the MCU

Marvel Zombies has proven that even short-form animated series can make a lasting impact on the larger Marvel universe. By revisiting these characters in a high-stakes, post-apocalyptic setting, the series adds depth and variety to Marvel’s streaming portfolio. With the second season, Marvel Television is expected to continue pushing the boundaries of what animated superhero shows can achieve.

Fans will undoubtedly be eager to see which heroes survive, which villains rise, and how the MCU’s larger narrative might intersect with this undead saga. With season 2 confirmed, Marvel Zombies is poised to become an even bigger phenomenon, delivering thrills, surprises, and MCU-first moments that fans will remember for years.
