Resident Evil trailer drops fans freak out over 1 scene

Apr. 30, 2026 / Film / Author: Praise Swint

The Resident Evil trailer 2026 is finally here. Director Zach Cregger just dropped the first look at his take on the beloved Capcom game franchise. Almost instantly, fans went wild. One scene in particular sent the internet into full meltdown mode. So if you have not watched it yet, clear your schedule. This one truly demands your full attention.

What the Resident Evil trailer 2026 shows us

The story centers on Bryan, a medical courier. His night starts out simple enough  he picks up a package and drives to a remote hospital. He expects a quick drop-off and an easy ride home. None of that happens. The moment he steps inside, everything falls apart. A biological outbreak has taken over the building. Mutant creatures now fill the halls. Moreover, there is no clear way out. Bryan has no weapons training and no backup plan. He is, in short, just a regular person caught in a living nightmare. As a result, the trailer builds tension fast and never lets go.

The 1 scene fans cannot stop talking about

This is where things get truly wild. Cregger chose to shoot key parts of the film from a first-person view. The camera sits right behind Bryan’s eyes, so you see exactly what he sees and move exactly where he moves. Then comes that scene. Without giving too much away, Bryan turns a corner  and what he finds there has driven fans into a full-on frenzy online. Within hours of the trailer going live, clips of the moment spread across social media. Furthermore, forums lit up and comment sections exploded with reactions. Long-time fans of the Resident Evil games say it mirrors one of the most iconic moments in the entire franchise. Meanwhile, new viewers simply say it scared them. Either way, nobody is staying quiet about it.

Why this Resident Evil movie feels so different

Previous Resident Evil films relied heavily on action big fights, loud moments and fast edits. Cregger, however, throws all of that out completely. Instead, his version goes quiet and stays close to the ground. There are no super-powered heroes here. Just one scared man trying to stay alive. That key choice changes how the horror hits the viewer. It feels personal and, above all, it feels real. In addition, wide-angle shots over Bryan’s shoulder add another layer to the experience. Together with the first-person view, they create a style that directly mirrors the look of the original video games. Fans of the games will notice this right away. The film also hides many nods throughout for those who know the franchise well.

Where this story fits in the Resident Evil world

The film takes place in Raccoon City. Specifically, the timeline runs alongside the events of the Resident Evil 2 game, though the story itself is completely new. Bryan has no ties to any known game character, which gives him the feel of a true outsider. As a result, his fear comes across as earned and easy to relate to. It also gives the film room to catch even the most devoted fans off guard.

The core cast includes 5 performers: 1. Austin Abrams leads as Bryan, the courier at the heart of the chaos; 2. Paul Walter Hauser plays Carl; 3. Zach Cherry appears as Dave; 4. Kali Reis takes on the role of Pauline; and 5. Johnno Wilson plays Max.

When does the Resident Evil movie open?

The film opens in theaters on Sept. 18, 2026. That date places it right in the heart of fall horror season  a strong spot for a film that already has audiences on edge. For fans who want more Resident Evil content right now, Resident Evil Requiem is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. It blends classic horror with modern action and has earned strong praise from players since its release.

Based on this trailer alone, Cregger’s Resident Evil looks like the version fans have long hoped for. That one scene alone makes a very strong case.
