Marvell Stock Soars as Analysts Call It Undervalued

Marvell Technology is heading into its fiscal first-quarter earnings report with real wind at its back. The chipmaker’s stock, trading under the ticker MRVL, has climbed sharply in 2026. Two themes are driving that move. The first is optical connectivity. The second is custom chips, also known as application-specific integrated circuits, or ASICs. Together, those 2 areas have made Marvell one of the more closely watched names in the semiconductor space this year. Moreover, several analysts on Wall Street believe the stock is still not getting the credit it deserves. They say Marvell stock earnings 2026 could prove that point in a big way.

Why Marvell has become a battleground stock

Not everyone on Wall Street agrees on Marvell. J.P. Morgan analyst Harlan Sur has described MRVL as a battleground thesis over the past year. The debate centers on 2 specific markets. The first is ASICs. The second is optical connectivity. In both areas, Marvell faces real competition. That competition has created noise around the stock and kept some investors on the sidelines. However, the bulls argue that the competition concern is overblown. They point to Marvell’s strong technology position and its deep relationships with major cloud customers as reasons to stay confident. So far in 2026, the stock’s performance has leaned in their favor.

What optical connectivity means for Marvell

Optical connectivity is one of the hottest topics in AI infrastructure right now. As data centers scale up to handle the demands of large AI models, the need for faster and more efficient data movement inside those facilities has grown dramatically. Optical technology moves data using light rather than electrical signals. That makes it significantly faster and more energy efficient at scale. Marvell has built a strong position in this market. Furthermore, the company’s optical connectivity products serve some of the largest cloud providers in the world. That customer base gives Marvell a stable and growing revenue stream tied directly to AI infrastructure spending.

The optical connectivity market is also expanding fast. Analysts expect demand to keep climbing as hyperscalers continue to build out their AI compute capacity. For Marvell, that trend translates into a long and visible runway of potential revenue growth. In addition, the barriers to entry in optical connectivity are high. That makes it harder for new competitors to displace established players quickly.

The custom chip opportunity

The ASIC market is the second major pillar of the Marvell bull case. Custom chips are designed for specific tasks rather than general use. In the AI world, that specificity is extremely valuable. A chip built precisely for a given AI workload can outperform a general-purpose processor on that task while using less power. As a result, major cloud companies have been investing heavily in developing their own custom AI chips. Many of them turn to companies like Marvell to help design and produce those chips.

That dynamic puts Marvell in a strong position. The company has the engineering depth and manufacturing relationships needed to support complex custom chip programs. As those programs ramp up, the revenue contribution from ASICs should grow meaningfully. Analysts tracking this trend believe the market is still underestimating how large that contribution could become over the next several years.

What to expect from the earnings report

Marvell reports its fiscal first-quarter results after the market closes on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Analysts broadly expect a strong report. The combination of optical connectivity momentum and ASIC ramp-up gives the company solid top-line drivers. Margin trends are also worth watching closely. If Marvell can show that revenue growth is translating into expanding profitability, that would add further weight to the bull case.

Beyond the headline numbers, investors will pay close attention to forward guidance. In particular, any commentary around the pace of custom chip ramp-ups and the pipeline of new optical connectivity wins will shape how the market reacts. For a stock that has already run hard in 2026, the bar is high. However, based on what analysts are saying ahead of the print, Marvell looks well-positioned to clear it.
