Aldis Hodge’s thrilling ‘Cross’ returns with dangerous new case

Jan. 08, 2026 / TV / Author: Praise Swint

Prime Video’s breakout crime thriller Cross is gearing up for an explosive second season that promises to push detective Alex Cross into his most dangerous investigation yet. The streaming service unveiled the official trailer and key art for the highly anticipated return, confirming the series will premiere February 11 with fresh faces joining the cast and higher stakes than the debut season.

Aldis Hodge returns as the brilliant homicide detective and forensic psychologist whose uncanny ability to get inside killers’ minds makes him uniquely equipped to stop the most twisted criminals. The first season captured more than 40 million viewers globally during its first 20 days, establishing Cross as a major hit for Prime Video and proving audiences hunger for intelligent crime dramas with compelling characters.

A billionaire in danger

Season two launches with a case that brings together local law enforcement and federal agents when billionaire business titan Lance Durand contacts the FBI requesting protection after receiving a credible death threat. The threat connects him to the murder of another billionaire playboy, creating a puzzle that requires both detective work and understanding the psychology of wealth, power and the enemies both create.

Matthew Lillard steps into the role of Durand, bringing his considerable talents to a character who exists at the intersection of extreme privilege and mortal danger. The casting represents a significant addition to the series, with Lillard’s range allowing him to portray the complexity of someone accustomed to controlling everything suddenly finding himself vulnerable.

Detective Cross and FBI Agent Kayla Craig, portrayed by Alona Tal, spearhead a joint mission balancing protection detail with active investigation. The killer they’re hunting doesn’t simply murder victims but leaves behind gruesome clues that serve as both signature and taunt. This pattern suggests someone who wants credit for their work and enjoys the game of outsmarting law enforcement.

Expanding the universe

The series welcomes additional new cast members Jeanine Mason and Wes Chatham, each bringing commanding presence that enriches the Cross universe. These additions join returning stars Isaiah Mustafa as John Sampson, Cross’s partner and longtime best friend who makes an unexpected connection this season that adds another layer to the investigation.

Samantha Walkes, Juanita Jennings, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd and Johnny Ray Gill all return, providing continuity while the series pushes into bolder territory. The balance between familiar faces and fresh blood keeps the show grounded in established relationships while opening possibilities for new dynamics.

The creative team’s vision

Creator and showrunner Ben Watkins crafted a complex twisted thriller set in Washington D.C. that goes beyond typical procedural formats. The series explores not just the mechanics of solving crimes but the psychological toll on those who regularly confront humanity’s darkest impulses. This season, Watkins also appears in a recurring role, adding another dimension to his involvement with the project.

The show draws from characters created by bestselling author James Patterson, whose Alex Cross novels have captivated readers for decades. The adaptation maintains the essence of what makes Cross compelling while expanding the world for television audiences who may not be familiar with the source material.

Executive producers include Watkins, Hodge, Sam Ernst, Jim Dunn, J. David Shanks, Aiyana White, Craig Siebels, Owen Shiflett, Patterson, Bill Robinson and Patrick Santa. The series represents a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Paramount Television Studios.

How to watch

Cross season two premieres February 11 on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The launch includes the first three episodes dropping simultaneously, followed by weekly installments building toward the season finale on March 18. This release strategy gives viewers enough content to dive deep into the season’s central mystery while maintaining weekly anticipation that keeps audiences engaged throughout the run.
