‘Cross’ returns strong with season 3 renewal on Prime Video

Mar. 18, 2026 / Film / Author: Praise Swint

The hit crime thriller Cross is officially moving forward with a third season, as Prime Video continues to invest in the globally popular series. The renewal signals strong confidence in the show’s momentum, following impressive viewership numbers and consistent audience engagement across multiple regions.

Produced by Amazon MGM Studios in collaboration with Paramount Television Studios, the upcoming installment will consist of eight episodes and stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. The series is based on the iconic characters created by bestselling author James Patterson and has steadily built a loyal fan base since its debut.

A standout performance driving success

At the center of the show’s appeal is Aldis Hodge, whose portrayal of detective Alex Cross has become a defining element of the series. His performance brings a layered approach to the character, blending intelligence, emotional depth and intensity in a way that resonates with viewers.

The creative direction led by series creator Ben Watkins has also played a key role in shaping the show’s identity. With a mix of suspense-driven storytelling and character-focused narratives, Cross has carved out a strong position within the crime thriller genre.

Impressive viewership fuels renewal

The decision to renew the series comes after a strong showing from its earlier seasons. Season One quickly gained traction, reaching 40 million viewers globally within its first 20 days. It also ranked as one of the most-watched premieres on Prime Video in 2025 and climbed to the top spot in more than 100 countries.

The momentum continued into Season Two, which maintained high visibility and secured a place among the top original series during its premiere week, according to Nielsen rankings. These achievements highlight the show’s broad appeal and its ability to sustain audience interest over time.

Recognition across major awards

Beyond viewership, Cross has also earned recognition within the industry. The series received honors at the 2025 NAACP Image Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series for Ben Watkins. Aldis Hodge was also recognized for his performance at the 2025 NAMIC Vision Awards.

These accolades reinforce the show’s reputation for delivering both compelling storytelling and strong performances, further solidifying its place in the competitive streaming landscape.

Season two expands the stakes

The second season of Cross, now available to stream in full, raised the stakes with a complex and high-pressure storyline. The plot followed billionaire Lance Durand, who sought FBI protection after receiving a death threat tied to a larger murder case.

Alex Cross teamed up with FBI agent Kayla Craig to uncover the truth while navigating a web of secrets and escalating danger. At the same time, John Sampson, Cross’ longtime partner, found himself drawn into a separate but connected thread of the investigation.

The season balanced intense investigative work with personal dynamics, giving audiences a deeper look into the relationships that shape Cross’ world.

Familiar faces and new energy

Season Two featured a mix of returning and new cast members, including Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Juanita Jennings and others. New additions such as Matthew Lillard, Jeanine Mason and Wes Chatham brought fresh energy to the storyline, contributing to the show’s evolving narrative.

This blend of continuity and expansion has helped the series maintain its core identity while introducing new elements that keep the story engaging.

Looking ahead to season three

While specific plot details for Season Three remain under wraps, the renewal suggests a continuation of the high-stakes storytelling that has defined the series so far. The next chapter is expected to further explore Alex Cross’ world, pushing the character into new challenges while deepening the emotional and psychological layers of the narrative.

With a strong foundation, growing audience and continued creative leadership, Cross is positioned to remain a key title on Prime Video’s lineup.
