Ray J’s legal troubles show no signs of slowing down. The “Sexy Can I” singer, 45, is now facing a lawsuit from American Express over an unpaid credit card balance of $78,704.56, according to a complaint filed in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, and obtained by PEOPLE.
The lawsuit, which also names Rajun Cajun Inc., a company allegedly linked to the singer, claims that payments on the account came to a halt around October 2024. American Express is alleging breach of contract, marking yet another major financial and legal headache for the artist.
This is not his first run-in with Amex
This latest lawsuit is not an isolated incident. American Express had already filed a separate case against Ray J and his company, Tronix Network, back in November 2025. That suit sought $139,849.85 in unpaid bills, with the credit card giant again alleging breach of contract. In that case, payments on the account were said to have stopped in May 2025.
Combined, the two Amex lawsuits amount to more than $218,000 in alleged unpaid debt a staggering sum that paints a troubling picture of his current financial situation.
A Thanksgiving arrest added to his troubles
Ray J’s financial woes are just one piece of a much larger storm he has been navigating. In November 2025, the singer was arrested in Los Angeles after an altercation involving his estranged wife, Princess Love, during a livestream on Thanksgiving Day.
According to TMZ, he was booked into a Los Angeles jail and charged with making a criminal threat. His bail was set at $50,000, and he was released later that same day. During the livestream, Ray J had expressed frustration at those around him, and the incident quickly went viral on social media.
A high-profile legal battle with Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner
Beyond his financial and criminal legal issues, Ray J is also embroiled in a separate and highly publicized legal dispute involving reality TV megastars Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner.
The situation stems from a sex tape recorded in 2003. Ray J has claimed the tape was filmed consensually, and that conversations about releasing it publicly began in 2006. He has further alleged that Kardashian insisted Jenner oversee the video’s release claims both women have strongly denied.
The legal battle escalated when Kardashian and Jenner filed a lawsuit against Ray J following his public claims that they were subjects of a federal investigation. In November 2025, Ray J responded with a cross-complaint, alleging that the mother-daughter pair breached a $6 million settlement by discussing the tape on their reality show, The Kardashians.
On March 10, Kardashian and Jenner filed court declarations in Los Angeles denying Ray J’s version of events and calling his allegations deeply offensive.
What’s next for Ray J
With three active legal battles, two significant credit card lawsuits, and a criminal charge all unfolding at once, Ray J is navigating an extraordinarily difficult chapter of his life. PEOPLE has reached out to a representative for the singer for comment.
The mounting legal pressure raises serious questions about what lies ahead for the artist, both personally and professionally, as each case continues to develop.
