Albright’s raw pet food recall sparks Salmonella warning

Albright’s Raw Pet Food issued a voluntary salmonella recall on May 6, 2026, covering one lot of its Chicken Recipe for Dogs Complete and Balanced formula. The recall followed routine FDA sampling that turned up salmonella in a composite sample of the product. The Indiana-based company moved quickly to pull the affected lot as a precaution, even as third-party lab confirmation remains pending.

So far, Albright’s Raw reports no confirmed illness in pets or humans linked to the contaminated batch. The company also says it is still working to determine the exact level of the pathogen present in the sample. Despite that uncertainty, it chose to act immediately in the interest of consumer safety and transparency.

Which product is affected

Only one lot number is part of this recall. Owners should check their product against the following details before feeding it to their pet:

  1. Product name: Albright’s Raw Pet Food – Chicken Recipe for Dogs Complete and Balanced
  2. UPC: 20855404008367
  3. Size: 1-pound pouch, sold in 30-pound cases
  4. Best by date: April 28, 2027
  5. Lot code: C001730

The product comes in clear vacuum packaging and is sold frozen in one-pound bricks. If the lot code and best-by date on the packaging match the details above, stop feeding it to your pet immediately.

Where the recalled product was sold

Albright’s Raw sold the affected lot directly to consumers across the country through online sales. In addition, a small number of select retailers carried the product in six states: Massachusetts, California, South Carolina, North Carolina, Wisconsin and New York. Customers who purchased through any of these channels should check their supply right away.

What salmonella can do to dogs and their owners

Salmonella poses a real risk to both pets and the people who care for them. In dogs, infection can cause diarrhea that may contain blood or mucus, along with vomiting, abdominal pain, lethargy and fever. However, some dogs show no symptoms at all, which makes the risk harder to detect without testing.

Humans can also contract salmonella through contact with contaminated product, an infected pet, or surfaces such as bowls, utensils and countertops. Symptoms in people typically include watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, headache and loss of appetite. Most healthy adults recover on their own within four to seven days. However, older adults, infants and anyone with a compromised immune system face a higher risk of severe illness that may require hospitalization.

What to do if you have the product

Albright’s Raw has laid out clear steps for anyone who purchased the affected lot. First, stop feeding the product to your pet immediately. Second, dispose of any remaining product in a way that prevents children, other pets or wildlife from accessing it. Do not simply leave it in an open trash bin.

If you still have the product and want a refund, email Albright’s Raw at info@albrightsraw.com. Include a receipt, photos of the product and details about where you purchased it. The same email address works for any questions or concerns about the recall.

Albright’s Raw says it will continue to update customers and retail partners as additional test results come in. The company also stated it remains committed to producing safe, high-quality pet food and will share more information as the investigation develops.
