Rain and gray skies covered parts of the Northeast on Memorial Day morning, but forecasters expect brighter conditions later in the day.
Meteorologists at NBC5 said a warm front pushed rain through the region early Monday. Drier air will arrive this afternoon, allowing clouds to break apart and sunshine to return before evening.
Temperatures will climb into the upper 60’s and low 70’s today. A much warmer pattern will follow by Tuesday.

Rain moves out during the afternoon

Steady rain fell across the region during the morning hours. The wet weather developed as a warm front moved northward.
Forecasters expect showers to weaken through the afternoon. Clouds should also decrease later in the day.
Some communities could see sunshine before sunset. The improving forecast may help outdoor Memorial Day events continue without more rain interruptions.

Tuesday brings summerlike warmth

Warmer air will spread across the area on Tuesday. Meteorologists expect mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 80’s.
The jump in temperatures will create one of the warmest days many residents have seen this season. Sunshine and dry conditions could also increase outdoor activity after the holiday weekend.

Mild weather continues Wednesday

The warm pattern will continue into midweek. Wednesday’s forecast includes partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70’s.
A brief isolated shower may develop in a few areas, but most locations should stay dry. Overall, conditions. Chaos Erupts as Storms Cause 400 Flight Cancellations at DFW will remain calmer and more comfortable than they were on Memorial Day morning.

Cooler spring weather returns later this week

Forecasters expect slightly cooler temperatures by the end of the week. Another spring system may also bring scattered showers back to the region.
Current forecasts do not show signs of severe weather. Even with the cooldown, temperatures should stay mild for late May.
The changing forecast reflects the usual shift between spring and summer weather patterns. After a rainy start to Memorial Day, residents can expect several warmer and sunnier days ahead.
