Steve Lacy is back and ‘Oh Yeah?’ drops in July

The Grammy winner returns with new single ‘The Feeling’ ahead of his third studio album

Steve Lacy is ending a four-year album silence. His third studio album, Oh Yeah?, arrives July 17 via RCA Records. He has set the tone for it with a new single called The Feeling, a hazy and emotionally raw track about a relationship falling apart.

The Feeling sets the mood

The Feeling comes with a music video directed by Matt Castellanos. The clip opens on Lacy’s floating head in complete darkness. It then moves into scenes of him playing acoustic guitar alone in an empty room, singing in front of a sparkler and posing against psychedelic backdrops. The visual feels deliberately unsettling.

The single follows Nice Shoes, which Lacy dropped in October 2025 as an early preview of the album. At that time, he described the project as the start of a fresh chapter. He also said it felt like building a new language from scratch.

Four years in the making

Oh Yeah? follows Gemini Rights, released in 2022. That album won Lacy a Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album in 2023. It also produced his biggest hit to date, Bad Habit. His debut, Apollo XXI, came out in 2019.

Lacy recorded much of the new album while living abroad. He spent time working in Paris, where he found a sense of clarity that proved hard to access at home. He handled production, writing and creative direction throughout the process. The project reflects a four-year journey through change and self-discovery.

Words matter more this time

On this record, Lacy pushed himself to think differently about lyrics. Early in his career, the beat always came first. Words followed as an afterthought. On Oh Yeah?, he worked to say things the way he would actually say them. That shift comes through clearly on The Feeling, where the emotional weight sits in the writing rather than just the production.

Oh Yeah? is available to pre-order now. It shares a July 17 release date with a new album from Syd, Lacy’s close friend and bandmate in The Internet.
