Jacksonville Jaguars star Travis Hunter appears ready for a stronger second NFL season after adding muscle during the offseason. The two-way standout used his recovery period to improve his body while preparing for another demanding year at both wide receiver and cornerback.
Hunter’s offseason transformation became a major talking point after the Jaguars shared new footage showing the young player looking noticeably bigger. However, the former No. 2 overall pick said gaining muscle was not the main goal.
Instead, Hunter focused on rebuilding his overall strength and returning to peak condition after a knee injury ended his rookie season early.
Travis Hunter focused on getting his body right
During an interview in late May, Hunter explained that his offseason training centered on improving his health after spending much of his time away from the field.
“It wasn’t a focus,” Hunter said about adding muscle. “It was me going in there and getting my overall body right and getting in shape.”
The Jaguars star also explained that the weight room became an important part of his recovery process. Since he could not run during rehabilitation, lifting weights allowed him to stay active and maintain his competitive mindset.
Hunter did not reveal exactly how much weight he gained. Instead, he joked that fans would have to wait until they saw him on the field.
Knee injury changed Hunter’s offseason approach
Hunter’s rookie campaign ended after he suffered a knee injury that limited his time on the field. Although he missed Jacksonville’s offseason programs, he remained involved with the team.
The young player spent time in meetings and used the Jaguars’ virtual training resources to continue learning both sides of the game. As a result, Hunter stayed mentally prepared while focusing on his physical recovery.
Reports indicate Hunter is expected to be cleared before training camp begins. However, the Jaguars may gradually increase his workload because he missed valuable practice time during the offseason.
Jaguars expect bigger role from Travis Hunter
Despite the challenges, Jacksonville plans to continue using Hunter as a rare two-way player. He is expected to contribute at wide receiver and cornerback, with his defensive responsibilities potentially increasing compared with his rookie season.
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen has already noticed the physical changes in Hunter.
“I’ve been very pleased with Travis and the way he looks,” Coen said earlier this offseason. “His upper body, he looks like he’s been in the weight room.”
Furthermore, Coen praised Hunter’s dedication and noted that the young star consistently runs near the team facility while preparing for the upcoming season.
Hunter prepares for his next NFL chapter
Hunter entered the NFL with enormous expectations after becoming one of college football’s most exciting players at Colorado. His ability to excel on offense and defense made him one of the league’s most unique talents.
Now, after an injury-filled rookie season, Hunter is focused on proving he can handle the physical demands of playing both positions.
The added strength could help him withstand the challenges of an increased workload. Additionally, his continued preparation shows the Jaguars believe he can become a central part of their future.
As training camp approaches, fans will get their first full look at the changes Hunter made during the offseason. If his preparation translates to the field, Jacksonville could see an even more impactful version of its young superstar in 2026.
