Monshun Sales chose home. The nation’s top-ranked wide receiver committed to Indiana on Friday, turning down Texas, Alabama, LSU and Ohio State in a decision he announced live on The Pat McAfee Show. Sales attends Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, and staying in-state was always part of the equation throughout his recruitment.
The commitment lands as a significant loss for Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, who entered the race late. Texas extended its offer in April, well after Indiana had already built a strong relationship with Sales. Even with a late start, Texas stayed genuinely engaged, and Sales visited Austin multiple times before making his final decision.
Why Sales picked Indiana over four major programs
Sales described Indiana as his second scholarship offer, and the program’s continued investment in him made a lasting impression. He built strong relationships with offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan, receivers coach Eddie Burk and head coach Curt Cignetti during his recruitment. He said those relationships felt like home from the first day and credited Cignetti’s directness as something that resonated with him immediately. According to Sales, that same straightforward approach shaped his development under his high school coach, Patrick Mallory.
Indiana entered this recruitment as the reigning national champion and the largest program in Sales’ home state. Even Pat McAfee, whose show is based in Indianapolis, appeared to be rooting for Sales to stay close to home throughout the process.
During his commitment announcement, Sales thanked his faith, his coaching staff and the Lawrence Township community for their role in his development. He specifically credited his head coach and two assistants, along with his teammates and the broader community that supported him throughout high school.

What Sales brings to Indiana’s roster
Sales enters as the highest-ranked recruit in Indiana football history. He ranks as the nation’s No. 8 overall prospect and the No. 2 wide receiver in the 2027 class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He also holds the No. 1 wide receiver ranking according to 247Sports individually and shares the top two spot with Texas commit Easton Royal across both major recruiting services.
On the field, Sales produced strong numbers throughout his high school career. As a junior, he caught 37 passes for 794 yards and nine touchdowns while also playing safety and recording 56 tackles. His sophomore season included 34 catches for 568 yards and seven touchdowns. His combination of size, route running and defensive ability made him one of the most sought-after prospects in the country.
What comes next for Texas after missing on Sales
With Sales off the board, Texas now shifts its full attention to keeping Easton Royal committed. Royal has been pledged to Texas since November, but LSU and coach Lane Kiffin have ramped up pressure to flip him. Royal is from New Orleans, giving LSU the same in-state advantage that ultimately helped Indiana land Sales. Texas’s coaching staff will now work to prevent a second high-profile receiver from choosing his home state over Austin.
