Getting accepted into Harvard Graduate School of Education was a dream come true for Janay DuBerry. Finding a way to pay for it proved to be the bigger challenge.
The recent Tuskegee University graduate earned admission to the prestigious program and received generous financial aid. Even so, she still faced a sizable tuition gap that threatened to keep her from enrolling.
That obstacle disappeared when Tyler Perry stepped in.
The filmmaker and entrepreneur covered the remaining tuition balance, allowing DuBerry to begin graduate school without the financial burden that stood in her way.
His support transformed an acceptance letter into a real opportunity.

DuBerry graduated magna cum laude from Tuskegee University with a degree in English. She has also built a career as a writer and educator.
She said Perry’s gift gives her greater stability and peace of mind as she prepares for graduate school. It also allows her to continue developing her books and educational projects while pursuing her degree.
Although Harvard represents her next academic milestone, DuBerry made it clear that she has not forgotten the institution that helped shape her journey.
She described Tuskegee as the foundation that prepared her for the opportunities ahead.
