The Black Emmy winners of 2026 are making their mark as the 78th Emmy Awards celebrate another year of television excellence.
Among the early winners, Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer added an Emmy to her collection. She won Outstanding Narrator for Lost Women of Alaska: The Missing.
The Creative Arts Emmys take place in Los Angeles on Sept. 5 and 6. The Primetime Emmy Awards will follow on Sept. 14.

Spencer won the Outstanding Narrator Emmy for Lost Women of Alaska: The Missing. Investigation Discovery produced the documentary.
She competed against acclaimed narrators David Attenborough, Werner Herzog and Jodie Foster. The victory adds another major television honor to Spencer’s career.
The Alabama-born actress previously earned Emmy recognition for playing Madam C.J. Walker in Netflix’s Self Made.
Spencer’s latest Emmy also adds to her collection of major entertainment honors. She won an Academy Award for her performance in The Help.

Her latest Emmy recognizes a different side of her talent. Spencer did not appear on screen for the project. Instead, she provided the narration that helped tell the documentary’s story.
The Television Academy lists Spencer as the 2026 winner in the Outstanding Narrator category for Lost Women of Alaska: The Missing.
Her win also highlights the range of Black talent receiving recognition across different areas of television.

The 2026 Emmy Awards have not reached their final night. As a result, the list of Black winners could grow significantly.
The Creative Arts ceremonies recognize achievements in technical, artistic, documentary, reality and variety categories.
