Drake appears to be showing Kanye West some quiet support. According to a post from HotNewHipHop, the rapper recently liked a video of West unveiling an honorary street sign dedicated to his late mother, Dr. Donda West.
The gesture, though small, has fans speculating about the state of the two rappers’ famously up-and-down relationship. Drake and West have cycled between public feuds and reconciliations for more than a decade.
A tribute rooted in Chicago history
The street sign honors Dr. Donda West’s decades of work as an educator in Chicago. She chaired the English department at Chicago State University for more than 20 years and founded the Gwendolyn Brooks Center for Black Literature and Creative Writing there.
Chicago’s City Council approved the honorary designation in 2024 through an ordinance from Alderman Gregory Mitchell. The stretch of 78th Street between South Shore Drive and Coles Avenue now carries the name Dr. Donda West Way, close to the South Shore home where she raised West.
The dedication ceremony was scheduled for September 22, 2026, giving the tribute its public debut nearly two decades after her death in 2007. Brown honorary signs now stand alongside the official green street signs marking the block.
