Jamie Foxx is looking at life differently these days.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Oscar-winning actor and comedian opened up about appreciating everyday moments, preparing to welcome another child and having his 77-year-old father living with him.
Foxx also discussed his new comedy special, Take Care of Yourself, which premieres October 7 on Hulu.
Jamie Foxx says he appreciates life more
Foxx told Jimmy Kimmel that he feels fantastic after going through a difficult period in his life.
The entertainer became emotional while reflecting on how grateful he feels today.
Foxx said he sometimes thinks he is “too grateful,” especially because he nearly died. That experience changed how he looks at ordinary moments.
Even something as simple as drinking water can now make him pause and appreciate being alive.
Foxx also shared a story about meeting a 97-year-old man in Malibu.
The man, who was in a wheelchair, encouraged Foxx to enjoy life because everyone is only passing through. Foxx said he later performed his entire stand-up routine for the man.
The man died shortly afterward.
That experience stayed with Foxx and reinforced his desire to enjoy every moment.
Jamie Foxx is preparing to become a father again
Foxx also confirmed that he is expecting another baby.
At 58, the comedian joked about returning to the school drop-off line after raising two daughters, who are 32 and 18.
Foxx admitted that he thinks about the age difference between himself and his future child.
However, he said a conversation with Al Pacino helped put things into perspective.
Foxx recalled meeting Pacino and learning that the actor was 84 and expecting a baby. The encounter made Foxx feel less concerned about becoming a father again later in life.
The comedian joked about what it will be like to be older while raising a young child.
Still, his comments made clear that he is excited about the next chapter.
Jamie Foxx’s dad now lives with him
Family was another major part of Foxx’s conversation with Kimmel.
His 77-year-old father now lives with him, creating plenty of humorous moments at home.
Foxx joked that his father is from Texas and enjoys foods that do not exactly fit Foxx’s California-inspired lifestyle.
The comedian also said his family has become concerned about his father continuing to drive.
Foxx joked that taking away his father’s car keys could be difficult because his dad already worries about dying.
According to Foxx, his father sometimes dramatically predicts that he does not have much time left.
Foxx turned those moments into comedy while also acknowledging the emotional reason behind his father’s anxiety.
Foxx says his health scare affected his father
Foxx explained that his father was deeply affected by seeing his son go through a serious health crisis.
The comedian said his father became nervous after witnessing what happened to him.
That fear sometimes comes out in humorous ways.
Foxx recalled his father joking that he might be experiencing the same condition after feeling numbness in his arm.
Foxx had to remind him that what happened to him was not something he could simply catch.
Behind the jokes, however, Foxx acknowledged how frightening his health crisis was for his family.

Foxx’s new stand-up special is titled Take Care of Yourself.
The title reflects his changing perspective on aging and appreciating life.
Foxx joked that he has gone from being the young comedian everyone wanted to see to becoming the older person receiving reminders to take care of himself.
He also shared a funny story about visiting a younger nightclub and realizing he might have aged out of the scene.
After leaving the club, Foxx said even the valet told him to “take care of yourself.”
For Foxx, the phrase has taken on a deeper meaning.
After everything he has experienced, taking care of himself and appreciating life have become part of his outlook.
Jamie Foxx celebrates 35 years of comedy
Foxx also reflected on his long friendship with comedian Speedy.
The two met after Foxx moved to Los Angeles and have remained friends for about 35 years.
Foxx recalled competing against Speedy in a comedy competition in 1991, where Foxx placed first and Speedy finished second.
Years later, Foxx returned to the same Oakland stage to film his new comedy special.
The moment gave him a chance to reflect on how far his career has come.
