Matchbox The Movie brought Hollywood stars to New York for its world premiere as John Cena, Jessica Biel and Teyonah Parris joined the celebration.
Apple Original Films hosted the premiere Wednesday night at AMC Lincoln Square in New York. The event gave fans an early look at the highly anticipated action adventure.
The film will premiere globally on Apple TV on October 9, 2026.
Matchbox The Movie brings an all-star cast
John Cena leads the cast as Sean, a former team leader who suddenly returns to his hometown.
Jessica Biel, Teyonah Parris, Sam Richardson and Arturo Castro also star in the film. Danai Gurira, Golshifteh Farahani, Corey Stoll and Bill Camp round out the cast.
The movie takes inspiration from the popular Mattel Matchbox toy brand. However, the story takes the familiar toy concept into a much bigger world.

Matchbox The Movie follows a group of childhood friends whose lives change when Sean returns home.
Sean works as an undercover CIA agent. His unexpected arrival pulls his old friends into an international chase.
Soon, the group must work together to survive the dangerous mission.
The story takes the characters across the globe. As a result, the film combines action, comedy and adventure.
Sam Hargrave directs Matchbox The Movie
Sam Hargrave directs the movie from a screenplay by David Coggeshall.
Hargrave also serves as an executive producer alongside Patrick Newall and Elizabeth Bassin.
David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Robbie Brenner and Ynon Kreiz serve as producers. Jules Daly also joins the producing team.
The creative team brings plenty of action experience to the project. That makes the movie one of Apple Original Films’ major releases this fall.
