Hundreds of students at Cass Technical High School and Detroit School of Arts reportedly walked out to demand justice for Nolan Wells, according to a social media post shared by civil rights attorney Ben Crump.
The post, shared by Crump on Instagram, featured a message from the People’s Socialist Party of Detroit calling for Wells’ case to be reopened. The organizers urged the public to continue demanding answers and accountability for his death.
The message also praised young activists for speaking out and standing with Wells’ family.
Students join growing calls for answers
The Detroit demonstrations come amid wider student activism surrounding Wells’ death and other cases involving young Black people who have died under suspicious circumstances.
Wells, an 18-year-old Black student from Mississippi, disappeared before his death drew national attention. His cause and manner of death remain undetermined, according to reporting by The Guardian.
Students at historically Black colleges and universities have also organized marches calling for transparency. In October, students at Jackson State University in Mississippi rallied to demand answers about Wells and other young Black people whose deaths have raised concerns.
Students from Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College and other institutions have also held demonstrations in solidarity with Wells’ family.
These actions reflect growing demands from young people for transparency in cases involving Black victims.
Ben Crump shares call for accountability
Crump’s post amplified the Detroit activists’ message and their demand to reopen Wells’ case. The statement called on students and supporters across the country to continue pressing for answers.
The organizers framed the demonstrations as part of a broader fight against racial injustice. They also called for accountability in cases involving the deaths of Black Americans.
The Instagram post did not provide additional details about the legal status of Wells’ case or identify any new investigative developments.
For Wells’ family and supporters, the central demand remains clear: they want answers about what happened to the teenager.
As demonstrations continue in different parts of the country, student activists are using public rallies and social media to keep attention on the case and press for transparency.
